Corona virus

Somebody I know wryly posted in Facebook a few days ago .... “when I was a kid, I died, and my father told me to walk it off.”
 Aye, I know what you mean. Had a dear friend, now passed away, who would never be outdone by tales of illness. Whenever we introduced others of our friends to her, before doing so we always warned them, whatever you do don't ask her how she is because she'll tell you! For hours on end!!

The sort of jokes that circulated about her, not unkindly because she was a very nice person, was that you could bump into her whilst out and tell her that you'd had a leg amputated. A typical response might be, "Oh, I know exactly how you must feel, my ingrowing toenail is giving me such problems".

Of course imaginations began to run riot in our circle with ridiculous scenarios being quoted all over the place, and one wag came up with, "Sorry I haven't been in touch, Jane, I've had bubonic plague for a month and nearly died". "Really?", Jane might reply, "I died yesterday".

Unfortunately, illness did eventually catch up with her, bless her, and she did die. She was a smashing person and I miss her badly. RIP, Darling. x

Cannot deny citizens re-entry
I didn't say that we should deny our citizens re-entry. Just quarantine them on their return. But not for 14 days, a month at least.

... it’s too late. Once the bug lands, it propagates. The transmission rate if true all but guarantees it.
It's not late. It's extremely important not to import new carriers of the infection. The number of new cases in China is decreasing, but, as you know, they have implemented radical measures.

South Korea is reporting a shortage of intensive care units and hospital beds. And that's a problem with this virus. As reported, 17% of all infected are in critical condition and need intensive care. It's all good when there is a low number of infected, but when the number of cases passes the critical number then we have a trouble.

The leader of the WHO team that visited China:

"The young and healthy people are dying rapidly and we don't know why."

An expert from Harvard University:

"Our mathematical models show that 40% to 70 % of global population could be infected, and I don't think there is any way to get around that."

Our governments tell us not to kiss and shake hands, and advise us not to travel to the infected areas. Idiots.

Close the borders and apply radical measures now!

The attendance figures will be down today , neither Borini or myself will be there , better safe than sorry !
It hasn't got a grip yet in this country but it wont be long as the Gov't are not doing enough to protect us from those coming back from abroad.

If anyone wants to use our tickets PM me !

Would love to have accepted your offer but I'm in the same boat. Could be double trouble for me between the rain and the virus. :( Was at the Doc's this week and she advised me to self-isolate as far as possible given my almost non-existent immune system. Then she gave me a form to go for an X-Ray which means sitting in a room with dozens of other people waiting my turn!! I'll have to go but not looking forward.

Both Borini and myself are high risk with heart and diabetes problems, my wife is an acute asthmatic and I'd never forgive myself if I brought anything home to her.
Will listen to the game on radio wales and comment on here instead.
Same here. I'm diabetic awaiting a triple heart bypass with an underlying cancer threat and few lymph nodes left to combat any virus. No question it would be very serious if I contracted the beast.

Thankfully atm Turkey is virus free. The council where I am are pr-empting the situation, disinfecting handrails, public toilets etc. and imo one very critical point, the touch pads on the cashpoint machines, here in a holiday resort the first thing new arrivals do is use a cash point to get Turkish currency.

Awaiting a call back from 111 who I contacted as I don't fancy sitting in a closed room with 50 or so other people waiting my turn for an Xray my doctor told me to get. They told me that they're absolutely inundated and can't respond for several hours and probably some time tomorrow. Lord knows the chaos the NHS will be in when this thing bites deeper as it will.

My only solace is that with the dispute between Iran and Russia, the market has become flooded with oil and prices have started to tumble. I'll try and judge when it bottoms out then get my tank filled to the brim before it climbs again. Could save a hell of a lot of money on heating costs.

Some quick feedback from 111 (well done them) who called me a few minutes ago. In view of my low immune system, they suggested I call Prince Philip hospital to see if they'll give me a narrower window for my appointment to shorten the time I'll be at risk in the waiting area. But they did tell me that, as of now, our particular area is regarded as low risk. Good news for the moment. :)

First positive news

Israel has closed its borders for all travel. All visitors, and this includes Israeli citizens, have to go through quarantine if they want to be granted entry to the country. Bravo Israel!!!

"Twenty days into its outbreak, Italy is grappling to contain the spread of the virus and find space and beds in intensive care units, which are dwindling day by day. To manage the emergency, the sick are being placed in operating rooms or in hospital corridors."

“I am very concerned,” said Prof Massimo Galli, the director of infectious diseases at Sacco hospital in Milan. “The pressure on hospitals in Lombardy these days is enormous. I am very, very worried about the impact the virus will have on our health system.”

Italian hospitals short of beds as coronavirus death toll jumps

Well, the professor Galli is downplaying the things. I regularly read Italian newspapers, just to refresh my Italian, and the doctors from the Lombardy say the health system is already on its knees.

I quote one of them:

"This is like being in a war. We are not able to give proper medical care to all who are in critical condition. We have to decide who is going to live and who is going to die."

They are already using triage in Italy despite having a relatively low number infected per capita. They even don't have an epidemic there and their health system is already paralysed.

The owner of Olympiacos & Nottingham Forest, 52yr old Marinakis has tested positive for the virus, he was in the UK on Friday for the Forest Millwall game and tested positive on his return to Greece. It's been confirmed he had contact with Forest officials, not sure if that includes any team members.
