A TRIP TO THE POTTERIES

but why not keep Sheehan?
For me, we need the best we can get/afford. There IS talent in the squad but it needs a good, experienced manager to bring it out. I'm fed up of giving inexperienced managers the opportunity to learn on the job. Whilst they are learning and gaining experience, we are suffering.

I want a sound professional, experienced at least at this level, who can take this squad and restore their/our footballing identity. We're only 6 points from the top 6 but the same distance from the relegation spots, so our season could go either way. As long as we stay up, I'd settle for writing off any promotion tilt as we'd only get mangled every week in the PL anyway in our present state. Just take a season to rediscover our DNA and practise it until it hurts before having a go for the top again. And I'd still like young Tosh to have his chance at doing it for us.

We have nothing different to offer right now as we did when Rodgers took us up. Our passing/possession football was something that set us apart from the rest and kept us in the Division. One of my favourite comments during our first season in the PL came when Phil Neville (Everton) asked his brother Gary (Man Utd) for some tips about how to play us in a forthcoming game. Gary's advice was sound, along the lines of: don't give away possession to them if you can help it because it'll be a long time before you see the ball again. LOVELY!!!

This is IDENTITY!! Something our carpetbagger owners have ripped away from us along with countless other assets. We had something different and it worked because we had seven seasons at the top and it only failed when....... well, we all know what happened. But maybe this guy Davies can help bring us back. He had a lot of experience with Brendan at different clubs and he must have learned a lot at Spurs. We'll see.

What I've seen of Borough they will play us off the park !
When I look at our fixtures all I can see is that we are in a big trouble.

Middlesbrough - 0 points
Preston - from 0 to 1 point
Southampton - 0 points
Coventry - from 0 to 1 point
WBA - 0 points
Birmingham - from 0 to 1 point
Southampton - 0 points
Leicester - 0 points
Plymouth - from 0 to 3 points
Hull - 0 points
Leeds - 0 points
Ipswich - 0 points
Sunderland - 0 points
Blackburn - from 0 to 1 point
Watford - 0 points
Bristol - 0 points
Cardiff - 0 points
Wednesday - from 0 to 3 points
QPR - from 0 to 3 points
Middlesbrough - 0 points
Stoke - from 0 to 1 point
Rotherham - from 0 to 3 points
Huddersfield - from 0 to 3 points
Norwich - 0 points
Millwall - from 0 to 1 point
----------------------
I expect us to earn max. 20 points between now and the end of the season, which would take us to 45 points.

Both Reading and Blackpool were relegated last season with 44 points each.

It's going to be a nightmare finish to the season.

I can't see how he is better than Duff. We still don't press, move and shoot enough.

It'll take more than a few days on the grass to eliminate bad habits "coached" into them over weeks and weeks. This is going to be a work in progress for Sheehan and whoever replaces him. What I can't abide is the lack of quality we saw against Stoke. There's no excuse for that and Sheehan forthrightly admitted it and volunteered that he'd just had a direct conversation with the team on the subject before the post-match interview. Sheehan's effectiveness overall remains to be seen but at least he's approaching the situation with the right attitude and giving it his best effort.

Darling is showing that at least in one penalty box he is effective. It's shame it's not ours, where he's a liability too often. I opined a while back, probably last season, that his best position might be #9. He should give it a shot.
