Ramos replaced CR#7. Scored a hat-trick and received what I would call underwhelming congratulations from CR#7 at the end of the match. The Portugal team went down to the end of the stadium to acknowledge their supporters. CR#7 didn't join them. He walked off towards the benches at the half way line ... my esteem for him has taken a big nose dive these past few months. What a dick?

Ronaldo's stock is hitting the deck faster than Raheem Sterling in the Swans penalty box. Cut by United, dropped by Portugal and upstaged completely by a kid who wears #26 and was therefore probably the last player picked for the squad (the last upstaging the first?). Incredible introduction for Ramos (and what a finish on the third, fantastic compensation after what was actually a heavy first touch), but what now for Ronaldo? I'd be picking the same team again for the semi if I'm Santos.

Spain .... worst penalties ever!!! cue @ivoralljack
It just baffles me how players who earn over twice as much in a WEEK as most of us earn in a YEAR can't even take a decent penalty. If I was their manager I'd kick their sorry arses so hard they'd never risk taking another one. But well done Morocco; they stuck to their game plan and put the so-called Galacticos firmly in their place and firmly out of the World Cup.

Fair comment but he's still in far better nick than Bale and Ramsey and he's way older than them. And what about Pepe who's knocking on the door of 40 years of age? Near the end of the game, the commentator said that he was still attending to business from the first minute to the 90th. and, apart from a superb display of defending, he even found time to score a towering header. What a contrast to Dumb and Dumber who thought they could walk their way through the competition. Players like Pepe are a credit to their country. In this world cup at least, all our charlatans did was cheat younger, better players, out of an appearance and dynamited what chances we had. They were arrogant and selfish, something that might be forgiven but should never be forgotten. If you can manage to keep your job, Mr Page, kindly make a note of that.

I don't know about you but I am not impressed with the quality of football at the World Cup. And the atmosphere is poor. I can't wait for the Championship to start on Saturday.

Agree with that. I think the best football so far has come from France, Brazil and some of the stuff from Portugal tonight was really good. Switzerland aren't a top team but can be difficult to beat. Portugal put them to the sword and could be dark horses for the title....... with or without Ronaldo.

Spain lost to Morocco with their version of Martin’s Madness. Pass, pass, pass, …… pass. No shooting. No crossing. All the real talent - Williams, Fati - sitting on the bench until too late in the game. 0ver 1000 passes, over 900 accurate … they even tried to pass the ball into the net on penalties. Crazy. Just like Martin. All easily stopped.

Spain had 13 shots (not too bad) but only 1 shot on target (poor).

We are actually joint-fifth for shots on target and joint-sixt for crosses per game. Not bad at all despite 'Martin madness'. We now average approx. double as many shots on target as under Steve Cooper.

But I agree we should be much better because we have the ball so much more than our opponents. We should at least shoot more.

I don't think Spain's elimination by Morocco is a surprise. It's not. This Spain national team is not a shadow of the team that was European champion twice in a row and won the 2010 World Championship. These young Spanish players keep possession and play numerous passes, but nothing comes out of it.

From the moment they ditched a true center forward, the Spain national team has been in decline. They loaded the team with midfielders and are trying to do something with 1000 passes. This is a failed philosophy because in modern football you have to create a goal chance after three or four (direct) passes.

When you persistently and stubbornly go wide all the time, and endlessly pass the ball around without any penetration, the opponent groups and it is very difficult to break through that block. I know that many people find such a game pleasing to the eye, but that's not the kind of passing football I had in mind when I rooted for Martin to become our manager. So, I wouldn't call Spain's elimination a surprise, and I am not surprised Swansea are so inconsistant in the Championship. When we play direct football we create chances and are ok, but when we pass it around from flank to flank we tend to lose our games.

First half: Croatia showing well. Brazil always dangerous, but Croatia had the better chances. Modric ... excellent as always
