THE RETURN OF SUNDERLAND

That old fox Mowbray rejiggered things at half time coupled with a down turn in passing quality caused us a lot of problems second half but we somehow battled through it

The guys were blowing out of their arses second half but they've had an extremely arduous week. That said, I wonder how Sunderland's week compared in terms of opponents, travel etc? If it was much the same as ours then we have to look at our fitness levels because Sunderland definitely looked the fitter team after 30 minutes and very much so second half. Nevertheless, it was a good win for us and the lads dug in when they had to.

Some stats:

Possession: 50-50 SHOTS: 10-10 OT: 6-2 CORNERS: 7-4 FOULS: 7-13 GOALS: 2-1

Their foul count was nearly twice ours, so maybe an indication of pressure? But our shot accuracy was three times better. I suggest that Piroe is started in his favoured #9 role in future as something of his sharpness seems to disappear when he plays deeper. Pleasure to see WOL award Jay MOM which he deserved. He is fast making his spot his own along with Ryan Manning who's improved his game no end recently.

Or an indication of despair?

We had more successful tackles (15 to 13) and far more attempted tackles (27 to 17). Also, we had more corners, 7 to Sunderland's 4.
