OUR NEXT MANAGER?

Potter took a lot of stick for leaving, but honestly can we really blame him? I don't think Premiership management was his ulterior motive for leaving, probably more for stability in a job.
Like in Martinez case, I blame him for lying, not leaving. Though I agree it's inappropriate to call Potter "a snake". Snakes deserve better.

As for the stability of the job he would have had more stability at Swansea than at relegation fodder Brighton. And if he is unlucky with the run of fixtures he'll be sacked by November. Managing a Premier League club is not a synonym for stability.

I really don't get it when people say Potter has left for a better job. He won't have time to implement his ideas. A pre-season is not enough. If Brighton start to play attacking football, without having players who are used to it, they'll be punished. Premier League today is a different animal than Premier League nine years ago when we got promoted. I'd argue that Rodger's Swansea would have struggled to survive. You need 100 points to win the title and mid-table clubs have excellent managers and top quality squads. Everton, Wolves, Leicester, West Ham, Watford, Newcastle, Southampton...We are talking here about Pellegrini, Benitez, Rodgers, Santo, Hassenhütl, Silva, Gracia. And two fine managers Daniel Farke and Chris Wilder have just been promoted with Norwich and Sheffield United.

If Potter was given time (which he won't get) and £150m (which he won't get either) then he would have a chance. But with the Brighton squad? No way.

With us we'll never know what he was promised, and what he really got.

I'm taking Birch at his word that the Club offered a significant package to stay. What was significant ... who's to say, but it was stated as making him one of the highest paid managers in the Championship. If we were smart it should have also contained incentives to earn promotion and then an uptick for managing in the Prem.

A state of art training facilities, a young and talented squad already playing great football, adored by the Swansea fans and players, offered improved contract. The only thing he had to do was to be patient and wait until we have got rid of high earners and flops. He could have built the squad around Rodon, Roberts, Grimes, Celina, Byers and McBurnie. A pretty good spine if you ask me. We are short in some positions (especially goalkeeper and left-back positions need to be adressed), but what sort of manager you are if you can't find proper replacements?

Rome wasn't built in a day.

@CroJack ... parallel to the point I made here Graham Potter to Brighton?

What Potter did shows a degree of short-sightedness and over-estimation of his ability. Brighton won't be built in a day, but they sure as hell could lose seven on the trot .... which would make him redundant and an after thought faster than he could blink. We gave him a certain license to lose ... to have moments of failure because we had such a young and inexperienced squad. No such license exists in the Prem.

Even if he was promised nothing he should have stayed.

This is not a poor Championship side:

Mulder

Roberts - Rodon - Hoorn - Naughton

Grimes - Byers

Dyer - Celina - Routledge

McBurnie

Explore the loan market and Scandinavian market and you have a pretty good squad.

Develop Dhanda, Asoro and John. Tell McKay to either start tackling or to f*** off. Promote Benda and a couple of other youngsters.

But that's the team we have at the end of this season, It certainly doesn't mean its the team we'll have at the start of next season, very strong hints of that in Birch's statement.

Routs has just signed a new contract. And this is the team without James.

Birch... "We have to re-balance our squad to cope with life in the Championship, and there will player movement both in and out. That's a harsh fact of football life."
"
we recognise we have to balance the right sale prices (James???) with maintaining a competitive squad."
They put everyone on possible redundancy notice, now they're looking to employ a groundsman.

Now reading that MARK BOWEN is odds on favourite with Skybet! You couldn't make this up!! He's never managed in his own right (remember Paul Clement?) and has spent most of his coaching life as a number 2 to Mark Hughes - hardly a ringing endorsement for the 'Swansea Way'.

Now I've nothing against this guy but we really need someone who can bring something obvious to the party. CT (2nd in the betting) DOES know the Swansea Way and all the players in the squad whilst Henry is a big name who might attract some decent players to the club. They offer something tangible that might benefit us.

I accept that sometimes choosing a manager can be something of a lottery and that a certain amount of luck is involved, eg Jenkins' appointment of Rodgers, but lets at least appoint someone who's got something specific to offer that will suit our particular needs as a football club.

Yes. Bielsa left Lazio after two days :ROFLMAO:.
My point exactly, why are we suggesting managers who have recently left clubs after days or weeks when the very essence of this thread is the condemnation of Potter who left after almost a year.

I suppose it depends on the circumstances involved. As an extreme example, a manager couldn't possibly be blamed for walking out if the club said he wasn't going to be paid.

I don't know anything about the circumstances and I didn't know anything about it but I'm sure he didn't say "I will be here as long as you want me to be here" and he didn't get an improved contract offer.

Anyway, it seems that Cooper will be appointed.
