We can't be recruiting players until 14th June, when the summer transfer window opens. Even if we had a new manager now he wouldn't be able to sign any players.

@CroJack ... does that preclude discussions with agents before June 14?

However, there has to be a short list of candidates for various positions including the resigning of players currently walking - Manning, Lati and Naughton. Somebody is vetting and prioritizing that short list. No doubt agents are shopping their free agents around clubs. No ?

And of course there's the planning for and directing activity when players return for pre-season.

The rules regarding Southampton's League status are absolutely ridiculous. How can they write rules like that without considering relegation teams? Isn't fair to Swansea they have to wait weeks before they can hire a new manager. I hope as soon as Martins departure becomes official they will sign his replacement.

Soton have effectively engineered a toxic situation with Martin. On the one hand the bridge is burned with us, yet he’s still under contract on the other and we can’t move forward until he’s gone.

EFL needs to intervene

In 48-hours, Spurs have hired a manager out of Celtic. Agreed comp to both parties and it's done. The Soton situation is ridiculous.

Spurs have paid approx. £5m in compensation fee, which is not a lot of money for them. Soton, on the other hand, have not had a profit since 2018. A month ago, the Soton owners Sports Republic injected £15m new ordinary share capital into the club, on top of £48m since September.

Who gives a shit. If you can't pay, don't play. Before tapping up Martin and poisoning our well, they should have determined the buy out required and whether it met their budget. We're not running a charity here.

I don't remember ever saying that we were running a charity. The point I made in my post #130 was that you can't compare Spurs and Soton. In any case, I am in agreement with you that Soton should pay us what they owe us.

I was making the point that this manager acquisition process can move pretty sharply when both parties have their act together.

If it all unravels, are we happy to keep him?
I don't see a way to resurrect Martin. This has been too disruptive and he chose to move laterally not up to bigger and better. Couple that with our terribly on-again, off-again season, a sense of opportunity squandered, and the bitter tastes that may be lingering from the January transfer window ... somebody (i.e. Martin) has to eat some crow and I would have little patience with the blarney he would spout at the next press conference.

As I commented earlier, and I don't know if this is possible, but both clubs are now subject to EFL licensure and control. If I was the Club, I would ask the EFL to step-in immediately and direct an outcome in terms of compensation. We suck it up, whatever it is and move on. The priority has to be getting Martin out and the replacement and staff on-board.

That all depends on who might be replacing him! I'd prefer to go back to him than get some third-rate, cheap, inexperienced, lower leagues manager (like he was originally). He knows our team, can use the fact that other teams are interested in him to leverage money and new player transfers out of the yankee owners, and given Soton's behaviour he may realise it ain't so bad after all here in south Wales.
