And Hamilton duly delivers with help from Bottas under team orders. Shame for Bottas but it is what it is. Mercedes want a world champion and Lewis is best placed to deliver for them. Can't say I'm a fan of team orders for obvious reasons but at least Hamilton said he wasn't comfortable with the win. That's what he said anyway...........

Never been a fan of team orders either,it happened quite a bit in World Rallying also,I remember Colin McRae almost running down Subaru team officials when the stood on the forest stage in an attempt to slow him. Pretty sure Hamilton will put that trophy at the back of the cabinet. Irrespective of wages and contract agreements its a lot to ask of a dedicated driver who's sole intention is to win,to back off and give the win to someone else, team mate or not.

Team orders should be banned it should be a race between individuals
When did they rename it the F1 team event?
Hamilton looked embarrassed on the platform to be fair to him. What he should have done is given the trophy to his team mate on the podium with everyone watching.

Looks like another 1__2 for Mercedes in Japan, Hamilton pole, Bottas joining him on the front row.Bad tyre decisions by Ferrari put Vettel down in nineth, with Kimi in fourth. Can't really see Vettel making up that much ground especially as there's the possibility of a wet race which would put Kimi as the Ferrari threat to Mercedes.

Looks like Lewis could be retaining his title this year. If he does, as soon as he's safe I hope he moves aside to let Bottas get the win he deserved last time out.

Yes, baring some repeated mechanical failures I think Hamilton has it in the bag. Vettel on the other hand seems to be unable to withstand the pressure of being second best, making a lot of driver errors which is unusual for him when he was topping the table.

I noticed that with Schumacher on occasion. Sometimes the pressure got to him as well and more than once he resorted to some dubious tactics. That said, he was a superb driver and I can only wish him the very best to regain his health.

Kimi wins the U.S, GP. Pleased for him, a good honest driver. Hamilton fails to make this one for World Champion, so near and yet so far. Vettel in fairness had a great race considering he had contact early in the race sending him into a few 360 degree spins, which looked like his race was over. Hamilton needed to pass Verstappen for second place but the pace of the front three cars were almost identical. Hamilton should make the F1 crown his next week at Mexico.

It was a good race but Lewis never looked like challenging Kimi. Like you I'm pleased for him and Verstappen drove a fine race as well. But seems like Mercedes' strategy was found wanting again. If Hamilton wasn't a nigh on certainty to win the title, I think he'd have been a tad upset with them.

Red Bulls setting the practice pace in Mexico with teams getting tyre and overheating problems. Mexico City is situated at over 6,000 feet so there's a resultant loss of 20% in engine performance that allows the "lesser" teams to get closer to Mercedes and Ferrari. Lewis almost certain to win the title here, accidents apart, as Seb has to win. Interesting to see if Lewis just settles for a high finish or tries to clinch the title in style with a win.

Yes, one of the few F1 circuits where atmospherics play a part. Since the F1 Regs. changed from naturally asperated engines to turbo the differences are not so great, the turbo system being rammed induction, an F1 turbo being capable of inducting 450 Ltrs. of air/oxygen per second.
I don't think Mercedes will see Red Bull as a threat in this race as winning it isn't really the ultimate objective. Bottas may well once again be asked to resort to team orders to ensure Hamilton the title.Tyre choice will also have a bearing on the race, with high track temperatures causing tyre blistering. Baring mechanical problems we should see Hamilton crowned tomorrow.

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on becoming F1 World Champion for an iconic fifth time. There were times this season when the smart money would have been on Vettel, but due to bad tactical moves by both Ferrari and Mercedes blew the title wide open. It then became a contest as to which driver could hold their nerve, Hamilton was the one to come out on top of this exchange with Vettel making errors that were not really in keeping with his driving skills, pressure was his downfall. Lewis will look upon this as his best Championship win as it puts him in contention to become the best ever F1 driver, still having age on his side.

Yes, Lewis has put himself up there with the all time greats. I suppose he'll now be gunning for Schumacher's 7 titles to cement his legacy to the sport. Hope he helps Bottas to put another win on his CV by repaying the favour he owes him.

Hamilton takes pole in Brazil. Vettel has a Red Mist day again, apparently he drove at a marshal who was trying to stop him going from going onto the weighing scales as they were not yet set up,in doing so he damaged the scales. The incident is under investigation.

Hamilton gets a lucky win in Brazil. Running second to Verstappen when Verstappen made contact with Ocon, allowing Hamilton to take the lead to the finish. Vettel finishing sixth.

This weekend sees Abu Dhabi as the final race in the F1 calendar. It also marks the departure and arrival of two great drivers. Fernando Alonso leaves F1. But remarkably we see the return of Robert Kubica, who almost died in a rally accident in Italy in 2011. the right hand side of his body being totally crushed. He's joined Williams, his right arm is withered and unable to bend any fingers, but Williams obviously see that he still has the potential he had 7 years ago, only weeks prior to the accident he'd signed up for Ferrari for the 2012 season as Alonso's team mate.

Yes, well done, Lewis. Routine win to seal a great season for him. Shame that such a talent as Alonso has decided to bow out of F1. He graced the sport and will be missed.
