Just read Bob Bell is to step down as chief technical officer of the Renault F1 Team, but is staying on as a part time adviser.
Also see Niki Lauder is in hospital having a lung transplant.

Red bull even came out and said they are building the team around Max! Helmet Marco also said Danny would have to sign for them as he didn't have other options!

Very sad to just catch up with the news that Fernando Alonso is to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season. He's been driving a duff car for several seasons now and has often done so in the past, otherwise he'd have a far greater number of World Championships to his credit. I liken his situation to that of Stirling Moss long ago. For many years, Moss was undoubtedly the fastest and most talented driver on the grid but never became a World Champion. It was as though Fate had determined that he never would. For a number of reasons, many not of his own making, Moss never became King of the Road. At least Alonso has won the title but it seems amazing that a driver, considered by many of his peers and rivals to be the best out there, has not dominated the sport in the way he should have. It is equally amazing that, with his huge ability, he can't find a seat in a team that would give him a realistic chance of becoming top of the pile again. I'll be very sad to see him go.

Yes. He will be sadly missed in the sport that he graced for some 17years.Unfortunately the McLaren technology never matched his driving skills, where even the car finishing a race became an achievement. His successful years were his first spell with Renault 2003/06 15 wins. his spell with Ferrari earned him another 11 wins. I don't think we've heard the last of him in motorsport, it wouldn't surprise me to see him in the Indy 500 or the touring car championships, also he is already a winner of the 24 Hr Le Mans.

Seems that Carlos Sainz has got the seat for McLaren next season. Hope that Fernando can go out in style with some points to his name from the remaining races.

The driver is capable of that, unfortunately I don't think the car is.

If Alonso was driving a Mercedes, he'd be guaranteed to get some points, definitely podium finishes and a likely win or two. It beggars belief that he can't get a seat with one of the top teams. Something behind the scenes that we don't know about maybe.

It was more of a decision by him to retire at the end of the season whatever, had he decided to stay he would have been pretty sure to be offered a drive.

Yes, I appreciate that he'd have no problem getting a drive but I think he's had a gutful of breathing other driver's exhaust fumes whilst he's chasing the pack. If he'd been offered a seat by one of the top 4 teams, which would have given him a realistic chance to compete, I think he'd have stayed.

I feel Alonso has put himself in a position where the top teams don't want him, i agree hes a top driver but his politics are not so good! publicly and constantly bad mouthing Honda, his stint at Ferrari ended on bad terms and 2007 with "spy gate" at Mclaren that he was also behind costing Mercedes hundreds of millions. He would demand top money and number 1 status! hes not young anymore and the question must be is he the best? i wouldn't say so as Hamilton already beat him over a season in the same team and that was as a rookie up against Alonso who was a double world champion at that time.

You are probably right and I alluded to it above. As for the best driver, that is a very subjective issue. But I do hear commentators waxing long and loud about his ability going to waste and I have read that many of them do rate him as the best in equal circumstances. But, as I said, that is very subjective and could be endlessly debated.

Here we go again, with the restart of the F1 race calendar. The Belgian GP at Spa, probably the most demanding circuit on a driver. Straight line speed is going to be a factor along with driver skill. I think Hamilton will edge this one.

Another good performance from Hamilton in wet conditions, also well impressed with Ocon and Perez 3rd and 4th damn shame Ocon is loosing his seat to Stroll but as Neil Diamond sang Money Talks
