What about Sterling then ? Fisted someone in the gob in their area just before halftime , blanked out by the commentators and not replayed on the TV coverage !
The ref was a prat , and don't get me started on VAR !
Fair enough but Columbia must have committed three fouls for every one by England. This non-stop pushing, pulling and wrestling is dragging the game down and the officials are not dealing with it. What else did we expect?

Loved your graphic description, "fisted someone in the gob"!!:LOL:

IMO Kane conned the ref for the pen as well , he was off balance , bending forward and pulled the hapless Colombian around and on top of him !
The English have plenty of dirty cheating players in their team , full of divers , whingers and niggly foulers such as Deli diver, trippier, Kane, Sterling, Vardy to name just a few !

I don’t know how there was only 5 minutes of stoppage time in that match. There was barely 5 minutes of actual playing in that 2nd half.

What Stirling was doing on the park for 80 mins is beyond me,he lost the ball every time he got possession.

I disagree Colombia were the weakest side left in the tournament (Sweeden and Russia were/are). But can't disagree they were the dirtiest.

Back to the game. I was puzzled with Southgate's tactics. England started with 3-5-2 formation, but after they scored they parked the bus and played 5-3-2 and 5-4-1. Wtf? A totally wrong tactics. Southgate has so much attacking talent in his squad and he plays 3-5-2? I like this England team mostly because there are young players in it, and because the most of the players come from three most attacking and entertaining teams in England - Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool. These players don't defend, defending is not in their DNK, and they are used to win their games by playing great football. That's why Sterling, who is a free-scoring winger in the Premier League, looks like shit when he plays for the England national team. Manchester City play 4-3-3, Liverpool play 4-3-3, and Tottenham mostly 4-2-3-1, they are all attacking formations, and Southgate chooses 3-5-2? No surprise they didn't create any chances. They used Swansea tactics from last season.

Another South American side out and good riddance. The sly digs, niggles and fouls from these teams are getting on my nerves and France had to dish out a few digs of their own to avoid being bullied out of it. Posters who know me will know that I don't mind some physical stuff but there are limits! And Uruguay, like Columbia overstepped them: and like Columbia, they have some tidy players. Had they concentrated on their football, they might have got more out of the game. As it is they're out and I reckon that most people will be glad to see the back of them and their antics.

Belgium 2 goals up at half time. And they are defending really well. Martinez is playing De Bruyne up front as a striker, Lukaku on the right and Hazard on the left flank. Well done Roberto. (y)

What a fabulous game, guys. I was praying for extra time as I was enjoying it so much. It was close but I thought that Brazil perhaps deserved it but no quibbles from me at the result. Maybe Brazil should have had a penalty, I thought so and so did the comms but some you get, some you don't.

Many terrific performances. Belgium's defence was great (coached by Martinez??? surely not). Hazard was superb and Lukaku never stopped running up front. And Marcelo, what a player. My idea of a wing back.

Anyway, I really enjoyed and let's hope there's more of the same in the remaining games.

Not too sure we'll see a game like that again in this W/Cup, It's all European from here in, Brazil seem to bring out that sort of game from the opposition. As Ivor says Brazil had their chances ,and a couple of bad decisions against them, but if goals win games then that run by Lukaku and his through ball to de-Bruyne for his goal was a game winner.

I felt that overall Brazil shaded that game and the stats, all in their favour, show the following:

Possession: 59-41. Shots: 27-9. On target: 9-3. Corners: 8-4.

Add in that unlucky own goal and the disallowed penalty and I think Brazil can feel hard done by. And Courtois was MOM! At least Brazil didn't resort to niggling and fouling like the other South American teams. In fact Belgium committed more fouls 16-14. Great game though. More please.
