France very lucky to be in front. Croatia the better team. The penalty? I'd be furious that it was given (Croatia) and furious if it wasn't (France). It was one of those and needed a mind reader to interpret the player's intentions. VAR can't do that.

Thought Croatia played a great game but it was not to be. France stepped it up second half and took their chances. But the howler by Loris gave Croatia a way back in that they were unable to cash in on. Commiserations to our CJ.

Interesting thought. People have been saying that this was a young England side who could only get better. But France are an even younger side and they won it. How much better are they going to get then? As for Wales, we've got some talented young guns coming through in Woodburn, Wilson, Brooks, Amapadu and others. Ally them to Bale, Ramsey and Allen and we might have a chance of doing well in the Euros in two years time.

The penalty....
Definite penalty.. the player never took his eye off the ball and his hand flapped towards it... He knew what he was doing..
Great game with some good goals.
The real football starts soon.

It's over now, but it's been a good game, definitely not a boring one.
Lady luck wasn't on your side today Crojack, own goal, disputable penalty. to go two down under those circumstances was demoralising, yet Croatia kept pressing, playing the better football, your first goal was the goal of the game, maybe Lady Luck smiled on you for the second, but they can hold their heads high, a credit to their country.

I thought they were fabulous for a country of their size (not much bigger than ours) they showed spirit tenacity and skill - right until the 4th goal for France you couldn’t be sure they wouldn’t pull some sneaky ones back and they didn’t let up - good game and a fitting finale to a very unexpected success of a World Cup (y) and that rain at the end, well that was just epic

It was a good World Cup but I still felt there was something missing! Teams such as Holland and Italy for instance. When I saw countries such as Panama there instead of them, it felt wrong. They proved no more than chopping blocks and I'm certain that the likes of Italy and Holland would have offered far more of a challenge in the Finals.

I get that FIFA want to spread the word globally to develop the game in other countries but I thought that the Finals were devalued because of this policy. In Ryder Cup golf selection (European), the top 10 qualify as automatic picks and the captain can also select two wild card players. Without going into the nitty gritty detail, I feel that the football World Cup should be based on something similar to ensure that the best teams get there. In no way could Panama be described as one of the best teams in the world.

Okay, they got through their qualifying group but how strong was it? Not very, must be the answer. Some groups are far more difficult than others, which makes it unfair, in my opinion, because I reckon that both Italy and Holland would beat Panama 9 times out of 10. The Finals should be based on meritocracy and nothing else.
