And we are still letting people into the country without even a temperature text !
The British Government is to impose quarantine regulations on visitors arriving into the UK. These regulations to take effect from the END OF THE MONTH. (three weeks time) If it wasn't so serious it's F#cking laughable. Talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

:oops::rolleyes::unsure:

So, if Aussies and Kiwis, who, by the way, will be totally free for this virus by that time, want to visit Britain, they will be forced to 14 days qarantine?

Does this apply to imported labor to pick produce on farms.

I think there is a large proportion already here, but the Romanians, who traditionally make up most of that labour force are rejecting the work this season and going to Germany instead. Their reasons giving that the contracts are to long, unable to work 40 hrs. due to care issues, but is it possible our virus figures {highest in Europe second highest in the world} is enough to frighten off anyone coming to work here at present.

Germany relaxed some lockdown rules last Wednesday and apparently figures are raising again.

Interesting to note that on Monday and Tuesday after Germany eased its lockdown restrictions, the number of cases TRIPLED. Let's hope that the world is closely watching and heeding the lessons.

The World is probably taking note Ivor, That is apart from the UK, who's experts have other infinite knowledge of the situation.

Apparently Johnson's " Common sense & Be Alert" speech has set alarm bells ringing for a second wave.

Germany is doing ok.

Germany 83 m, Britain 64 m population.
Germany is down to 16.000 active cases, Britain at least 150.000.
On Wednesday Germany had 186 new cases, Britain 3446.
Germany 8.000 deaths, Britain 34.000.
If you divided all active cases in Germany with their 81 cities over 100.000 inhabitants, then each of these cities would have 179 infected. But Germany has many more cities under 100.000 inhabitants.

I expected a raise of newly infected in Denmark efter the relaxation of measures, but all numbers are just going down and down. On Wednesday we had 48 new cases, and Denmark is one of the countries with most tests per capita. Denmark has tested 63.716 people per million, Britain 32.713. All people in Denmark who are in vulnerable groups and no matter of age can take paid sick leave and stay home. Denmark now has a ministry for tests and PPE, and now when the epidemic is under control the strategy is test, test, and test. Everyone can now call a mobile test unit to come to your place and be tested. There are drive-in test units in all bigger Danish cities. That's how you fight this virus.

Yesterday, there were 0 deaths in Denmark, and now five days in a row there have been under 100 newly infected.

137 hospitalised, 32 in ICU, and 26 in respirators.

That's the difference between an early lockdown and a too late lockdown like in Britain.

Judging by the mortality rate this epidemic is over in Wales and Northern Ireland. There aren't any excess deaths in these two countries anymore, just like in the vast majority European countries. Only in England, Scotland, Sweden and Belgium there is still higher mortality than normal. England is actually the worst. Even Italy, Spain and France are back to the average mortality rate.

In the week 20 mortality rate in England was 16 times higher than average.

Reading today that Trump's anti-malaria drug (can give heart problems) and David Hockney's claim that heavy smoking (we all know the dangers of that) will both combat the virus have been angrily dismissed by experts. Yet serious scientific studies are being done on both claims. Scientists in Paris are giving nictotine patches to key workers to see if they prevent the virus whilst 'Trump's drug' was being tested on 40,000 people worldwide before Trump even mentioned it.

Equally contentious is the theory about the BCG vaccination to prevent tuberculosis which you would likely have received ( I did) if you went to school before 2005. Schools in the UK no longer give the anti-TB jab but they still have mandatory vaccinations in Japan and South Korea. Now here's the thing. Japan has had just 771 deaths; South Korea only 264, whilst the UK has had over 36,000. No doubt other factors will have come into play to account for the huge difference in those figures but clinical trials to see if the BCG vaccination really does protect you against Covid-19 are being conducted in at least six countries. I wonder if the UK is one of them? Hope so!!

Anti-malaria drug (Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine) has been used in clinical testing but has been abandoned because of no effect on this virus, and it gives serious heart problems. It's true that in France they give nicotine patches to key workers. Apparently, people who are smokers don't develop severe symtoms as much as non-smokers.

The most promising drug right now is Remdesivir if given early to patients who develop pneumonia. It was reported yesterday that 80% of patients recover, which is huge. Some other drugs are in serious clinincal trials right now and look very promising, especially some Japanese anti-viral and heartburn drugs, but we have to wait a couple of months for the results of these studies. I am optimist, and I think we'll have an effective medicine in a couple of months.

This idiot we now have as a PM actually defends MP Dominic Cummings who has on two occasions broken the lock down rule imposed by themselves, and furthermore going onto a beauty spot some 30 miles further with his family.
Johnsons response to this is that he wholeheartedly agrees with what he did as any father would do in the circumstances. So in effect he's saying he's quite agreeable to any father may do the same, when they have put a block on families travelling to see terminally ill parents.
I think the truth of the matter is that Cummings is far too valuable to Johnston to be dismissed, he is the man who Masterminded Brexit and the Election on Johnsons behalf. I think he (Johnson) relies on Cummings for his continuity as PM as it appears the majority of Conservative MP's think Cummings should go.

I think he has a safe full of videos which would hurt the government if published.
His specious excuse is the leeway written in to protect domestic abused and house fires. Whoever sanctioned this trip should have ensured that the public were aware of this facility.

Johnson has made it pretty obvious that he will keep Cummings in his cabinet irrespective of public opinion. He's made it quite clear now as a puppet that he cannot operate as PM without Cummings hand up his arse. this man is becoming more dangerous than Trump.
One wonders if a MP from another party would have got the same response from Johnson or indeed a back bencher from his own party.

From USA:

John Olivarri, mayor of Osage Beach, spoke out about the viral videos that have emerged showing over-the-top crowds at bars and restaurants at the popular lakeside destination, the Kansas City Star reported.

“My concern is for our workers and whether some of the folks that have come down might be creating a health problem for the community, absolutely,” Olivarri said. “But the only other thing that you could do would be shut it down. I don’t know how you would shut down Lake of the Ozarks. There’s no way to control that.”

Several videos posted to Twitter sparked outrage over the weekend with hundreds of revelers tightly packed at various poolside bars.

The mayor estimated that at least a dozen locations hosted the massive parties to mark the start of summer.

But he claimed there wouldn’t be enough manpower for local authorities to respond to every call about crowds over the holiday weekend.

“The businesses have some responsibility, but I’ll be real honest with you, no one thought that it was going to be easy trying to enforce some of the governor’s guidelines,” Olivarri told the newspaper.

Gov. Mike Parson has said that many businesses can reopen, including large venues, as long as they maintain about six feet between customers and staffers.

Camden County Sheriff’s Office, which patrols part of Osage Beach, said their hands are tied because there are no penalties for disregarding the rules.
