Swans v Sheff Utd

As of today (Thurs) Byers and Maric played for the U23 last night, so I presume they will not be in consideration for this match. Rodon, Dhanda and James did not play so are either injured or part of the mix for the first match of the season, To be determined whether new arrivals McKay and Celian will be included. I suspect they may be on the bench or held back until the following week.

(BTW: happy to yield this space to anyone that wants to post a flashier / data dense pre-match analysis)

We ain't got long to wait to find out now Yankee. Pott may surprise us all with his thinking.

@Jackflash ... agree, there could very well be a surprise. We have no idea what his preferred shape is with the players on hand and Saturday will be the first glimpse. Preston will offer more clarity as new players are integrated.

But, I think (hope) we will see an approach that leverages technical ability and speed. And, where the veterans stand or sit will tell us where he's going to put his trust and how his vision will manifest

I think your right Yankee, our ability to hit on the break has been virtually zero the past few seasons, hopefully our youth pace will put an end to that era.

Wol journos have gone with the following team for Saturday:

Swansea City XI to face Sheffield United: Nordfeldt; Roberts, Fernandez, van der Hoorn, Olsson; Fulton, Carroll; Asoro, Celina, McKay; McBurnie.

Personally I would go with Amat instead of Fulton or Carroll. I suppose I would bench Fulton because he hasn't had a great pre-season but then neither has Carroll however, at least Carroll does offer a passing option. As for the bench, I would include Montero, Dhanda, Naughton and also Ayew as a late possible game changer. But I'm looking forward to the game to see how our new look performs.

I would agree Ivor, going to be interesting having youth and pace, but it still calls for some old head experience here and there on the park. This game is going to be very important from a team moral point, a win will really put their heads up for their first Liberty game.

It would help our counters if Potts system doesn’t have our wingers tracking back underneath our own 18 constantly like that have been the last 2 years. We will find out tomorrow.

Training before Sheffield United. The lads looked a bit grim at first but livened up later. Some nice one touch stuff at the end and they looked like they were having fun. Olsson seemed to be smiling throughout.

I watched the reading v derby match last night. As @ivoralljack has commented elsewhere .... pretty dire stuff for the most part. Any technically good team with speed would never let either of those two teams see the ball and would have a field day. Based on what I saw in our preseason, I am quietly optimistic about today and the season. We are still a team with several senior international players ... we need to go on the field, play like it and boss the game.

Montero has to be disappointed after his preseason domination of RBs.

No Jordan Ayew. No Naughton. Injured, or not good enough, or on a sulk, or heading out the door?

I would have liked to have seen Amat starting as well ... a lot of quality from last season in LaLiga to be sitting on the bench.

I am surprised to see Fulton and Carroll ... they did not appear on any of the highlights that we saw of preseason games. However, we have Prem experience in those two and Celina gets a change to shine buzzing around McB.

It's a newer look all right. Hopefully faster, technically better and willing to dominate.
