Steve Cooper

With Nuno Santo possibly heading for Everton instead of Palace, Steve Cooper has again become the new favourite to replace Roy Hodgson according to some bookies. His odds are quoted at 15/8, followed by Eddie Howe at 3/1, then Sean Dyche at 4/1 with Valerian Ismael the outsider at 9/1. Not intending to be nasty here but how on earth Cooper rates lower odds than Howe and Dyche, both proven in the Premier League after winning promotion to get there, is beyond me. But Palace always seem to produce a promising stream of kids, so maybe the thinking is that Steve can work to develop them. Maybe there's hope for Cameron Toshack yet.......

He hasn't been able to develop a superior style of play, not to talk about developing young players.

Young players develop by playing games, and Cooper has been more than generous when it comes to players from other clubs on loan at Swansea.

On the other hand, he has forgotten to develop our own players. Benda (who is a better goalkeeper than Woodman), Latibeaudiere (who is an excellent passer), Cullen, Whittaker, Oli Cooper and Brandon Cooper, Garrick (whom he sent out on loan). Only Cabango (our best rated player last season according to Whoscored) has played many games, and that's because we played three at the back, and Bennett had an injury. Even Yan Dhanda, who is still 22 years old, was benched when Cooper signed his Premier League darling Hourihane (also on loan).

Now all these loanees have left the club, and our own players have not been developed.

Give him time!
He is a GREAT manager. Never been relegated from the Premier League. Even Big Sam can't brag about it anymore.

And to quote Donald Trump. "Believe me, Steve has done a TREMENDOUS job at Swansea. Nobody has done it before. Never been anything like this in the history of the world. The best, the very best ever. He is going to make Palace great again!" 😇

Cooper now being touted as the OVERWHELMING favourite to land the Palace job. The Selhurst outfit are reported to be going in a different direction this season by concentrating on developing the youngsters who make it through their age-grade system and feel that Cooper with his experience and success at England youth level is the man for them.

Consequently he is now odds on favourite for the job at 10/11. Frank Lampard is quoted at 7/2; Howe 5/1 and Dyche at 6/1. Posters will know my feelings about Steve. I think he will definitely become a good manager in time but I feel he is not the man for us at this time. He's still learning and his inexperience cost us many points last season. That said, he was working under difficult financial constraints and must have been doing some things right for us to have finished as highly as we did. It could and should have been better though.

IF Cooper does move on, given our owners' reluctance to spend so much as ten cents of their personal cash, practically all of the better known names will not be coming to us. For me that puts Cameron Toshack, if he's available and wants it, firmly in the frame. No guarantees that he'll be successful but, if we fail under him, we'll fail trying to play proper football. And he should have a few bob to spend because Palace will have to pay us compensation for Steve Cooper. Really interested to see how this plays out but who would you guys propose as manager if Coops leaves?

Toshack is the common sense option. He would arrive and with minimal ramp up time be fully operational. It knows where the skeletons are buried; where the latent talents and capabilities are; is fully versed in our system and the system that all of our home bred talent has been schooled in ... he schooled them.

he’s as deserving of the opportunity as anybody ... except Laudrup ... and he’s not coming back.

Reading today that Steve is off Palace's radar. Might be because they are strongly rumoured to be the subject of a takeover. So, enter Fulham who it is reported have moved him to the top of their wanted list. IF it happens, compensation at the going rate of £3.5 million for a Championship manager has been mentioned. Cameron Toshack is available for nothing! Just saying.......

Now reading that Cooper to Palace is firmly back on again amid continuing interest from Fulham. Talk about a merry-go-round!
