They didn't want to sell him. Whittaker is the board's answer to Martin's request for a new attacker

Swansea's transfer deadline day checklist:

New Goalkeeper

New Right Wing Back

You reckon anything will get done today?

I don't think Martin is listening.

This whole fiasco with Martin and Obafemi and Whittaker, reminds a lot of the movie Money Ball, where the only way the GM could get the manager to play the players per design was to trade out the players in the way.

Piroe may yet leave. 🤷‍♂️

The other thing that we can hope for is that Prem clubs desperate for salvation come raiding the top EFL clubs for their best players thereby weakening the league

Will this all be over tomorrow ?
All we need then is a stroke of luck.
I remember a cup match, evening so league cup or maybe LCV, Pratley was injured so Joe Allen came off the bench and played a blinder. The rest is history.
Not that I would wish any of our players to pick up a nasty injury, you understand.

We have signed Karlan Grant, 25 yo, ATM, from WBA. He had pretty good scoring records in 2020/21 and 2021/22. Last season he scored 18 goals and had 6 assists for WBA.

Now we have Cooper, Grant and Whittaker as ATMs, Piroe and Cullen as strikers.

The trouble is we didn't sign a goalie, and we still have slow defenders.

And WBA pulled the deal as they couldn't get the striker they wanted !
That means our usual disastrous January window is worse than usual , no incoming players , no wing back , no striker , only outgoings to swell the yanks coffers.
FUCK OFF YANKS , pass the club on to someone who cares about the team , it's supporters and staff , you've milked us repeatedly year after year and reduced a stable Premier league team to mid table mediocrity in the championship . FUCK OFF YOU GREEDY BASTARDS .

And the player we have all forgotten about: Kyle Joseph. On loan to Oxford United. Played 19 L1 games, scored 6 goals. Plus 1 goal in 4 cup games.

He's been trucking along, a tad less prolific than Whittaker, but still pretty good despite a few weeks of injury in November.

He is 20 compared to Whittaker at 21.

Well I think we are all agreed that we have seen yet another shambolic, disappointing and feckless transfer window. What a bunch of amateurs. Of most concern is the long-run consequence of our faffing around and our reputation when trying to make deals in the future.

Mitchelmore says it well in his summary for WoL (although unlike Mitchelmore I hold Martin just as responsible as Julian Winter, Josh Marsh and the American owners):
"... off-the-field impact is far more damaging. Clubs have become increasingly angered (stronger words apply in some cases) when it comes to dealing with the key decision makers at Swansea, and that certainly isn't healthy for long-term relationships and future business. Similar concerns were raised in January 2022."

It is such a far cry from the days of Michael Laudrup and the Premier League. How did we get here?
