Comfortable win, well done yjb
It was but I'd like to have seen us go at them more in the second half. It was a decent display against a not very good team who are probably relegated already. A better team than us would have gone for the jugular and improved their GD. But I'm not complaining at three good away points.

We don't seem to get many comfortable wins like that. Seems like they're about 10 points from relegation and the playoffs, just in the middle. I think if Benda never got injured we would be competing for a playoff spot still. Fisher has done well the last few matches though.

Played some good football for the most of the game. Notice how fast we move the ball in this video highlights.

It was a comfortable win against a poor side. My only beef is that we didn't go for more goals second half and throttled back a bit. Are we becoming flat track bullies though? We usually, not always, beat up on the 'lesser' teams but struggle against the better teams. Don't know how accurate this is but I read somewhere that, against top six teams, our abysmal record is played 12, lost 11, drew 1 with a goal deficit of 6-26!! If that's right, it's pretty awful and gives us no credentials whatsoever for going up next season. Some stats:

POSSESSION: 41-59 SHOTS: 8-14 OT: 4-3 CORNERS: 6-1 FOULS: 18-6 GOALS: 0-2

Standout comments about those figures are that Wigan contrived more shots on target despite far fewer shots and their foul count was three times ours; the latter, I suppose, being indicative of the pressure we applied. Welcome three points though and a smooth performance.

I'm still not sure Martin realizes that:
  • for our style of play four is better than three at the back,
  • we don't always need to play out from the back,
  • we are best when we move the ball much faster than we normally do.

I’m convinced Walsh is our missing link. He’s got the nous, he’s got the technical ability to pass accurately much more than 10 yards and he reads the game. If he survives uninjured he’ll attract some interest in the summer window.
