This week's selections

Well if Borini or I get 7 it will be because we're not clever enough to sus out the racing certainties. My head hurts trying to work out the average odds to return 9/1 over 6 bets. Any offers? Mith?

I don't look at the odds , I'm aware of general form , are teams solid away from home , which teams score goals , who defends well , who draw a lot of games etc. Then I sit down with a fixture guide and a pin !

Not a good week for us as a team and we've dropped to 19th spot in the national league. But congratulations to @trampie with his score of 21 points. followed by Blobs with 18 and JoD with 16. I'm still at the top by the skin of my teeth with my lead cut to a paltry 3 points. :( :D I'm there to be shot at, guys, so who's gonna grab my spot this week? NOT if I can help it !! :ROFLMAO:

Courage, mom brave, think Devon Loch!
Who tripped over thin air when leading and almost home! Jockey Dick Francis went on to become a top selling novelist writing about crime with a horse racing theme and was apparently the Queen Mother's favourite author. Devon Loch was beaten by ESB. Anyone know what that stands for? Will post the answer tomorrow.

Devon Loch is the epitome of the hot favourite failing at the last gasp. ESB's mum was English Summer, can't remember the sire, B...?

ESB ?

Eat sausage baps ( if you can't get a pasty ! )
You're not that far off actually, Blobs. :) I was told by a member of my quiz team a few years ago (he was a contestant on 15-1) and was an avid horse racing fan going to at least 4 meets a year, that it stands for Egg Sausage and Bacon. :D

I'm not convinced, Ivor.
I've looked him up. Apart from his dam being English Summer, sire Bidart, his breeder was Sheila Bourke.
More compelling, imo, at any transport caff in the 50's you would ask for egg, bacon and sausage or ebs.
Trust you to leave it till all the participants are dead, so we can't ask!

My mate Malcolm said that he heard it either on radio or tv, can't remember which, in an interview given by someone from the horse's stable - could even have been the owner. Mal really knew his horse racing: it was his sport and was quite convinced about it.

On another note, he moved to Norfolk a few years back, to a place called Cavell Close not far from Norwich. The house he bought was once lived in by Edith Cavell, the nurse who was wrongfully executed by the Germans for espionage during the First World War.

Congratulations to @Bridgejack for topping our scores this week with 22 points. Just behind on 21 were @jackodiamonds and myself. BJ pipped us because he got a bonus for 6 correct wins, so well done for that. And @Borini chipped in with a solid 17 points to the team score. See? I said you'd start to come good. At the moment I top our league with 162 points; JoD has 159 and then a little gap to @The Blobster on 146.

We finished in 13th spot in the weekly National Team League with 96 points, which sees us nicely positioned in the overall National League in 15th position within striking distance of the leaders. All to play for! Well done, team. :)

PS: I've moved into equal 8th position in the National Individual table just 13 points off top spot. JoD is still well in contention on equal 23rd.

19/1 and 70/1 odds this week.

Low odds and crap result for me last week , all things considered I'm happier with higher odds !

If I don't change my selections the odds are 9/1 and 31/1. BUT I've selected teams I don't want to win, so I might change them and I'm also wondering how this week's Euro games might affect some performances.
