Watching much of this game reminded me too much of last year. Thank goodness with have VdHoorn. Mulder did a great job coming on early and saving Nmecha. His sliding saves were outstanding. McKay is great, I would like to see Montero and Dhanda more. Scoring and height are going to be trouble this season. So far couldn't ask for much more than a couple wins in the box.
Literally a game of two halves today. We won the first but PNE were defintely the better side in the second and maybe we were slightly fortunate to come away with all three points. There were periods of some very good stuff from us but Nordy's injury disrupted us for ten minutes before we briefly got back on top. I expected us to kick on second half but it didn't happen. They applied pressure, were the stronger team and seemed to find space at will between the lines. We defended deeper and deeper as they attacked down both flanks and through the middle as well.
Have to say that VdH was immense (my MOM) and batted away everything that was thrown at him. He was ably supported by young Rodon who could feel well satisfied with his showing. When they did falter, Mulder was there with a steady pair of hands and some good saves. We were reduced to breakaways and could actually have scored a couple more had we been more clinical. Oli was particularly disappointing butchering one great chance. As usual he worked his socks off but at times he really does look like a carthorse. He has no pace whatsoever and I can't remember him winning one aerial battle. He's a penalty box operator but if he doesn't get service in there, he's of little use. Our main striker? If he his, on this showing at least, we're going to struggle for goals. As for his penalty miss, all I want to say it was abysmal in the extreme and could have cost us points.
It would be nice if we could out-football teams like PNE but right now we are nowhere near good enough to do that and we need some physicality and more fitness in the team. The pundits on Radio Wales made that very point. The schedule of fixtures in the EFL is merciless and no way do we have the depth of squad to cope with it. Without some quality additions in the loan market we are going to struggle badly in November, so the club needs to haul arse and get some decent players in pronto.
In summation, if we play as we did in the first half, we'll have a good season. But if we fall away as we did in the second period, we're in for one hell of a struggle. I'm sure that Potts is astute enough to recognise that.

Didn't see anything outside the stadium but while Nordfeldt was being seen to and changed there was loud chants from the east stand " you greedy bastards get out of our club " ,while the game was on the team had full support.
I could hear them loud and proud on the radio - the commentator even gave them a name check - “as Nordfelt leaves the field the chants ring out we want Jenkins out - referring of course to Huw Jenkins” I nearly choked on my flake.......
