This is where Wood starts to sulk and his performances deteriorate. He and Martin are mates from what I've read. £8m was acceptable, especially since he'll do little to improve that value if he feels he was denied a move he wanted. I doubt he'll be sold for more now unless Martin can convince Saints to come back in January with a bigger offer. Might happen, given Martin is apparently somehow a very convincing talker based on his career trajectory.
Sunderland got those 3 goals with just 33% possession. Sound familiar?
