A long ball by QPR goalkeeper towards our penalty box:

Mike fails to make a proper headed clearance:

2.png

Carter-Vickers fails to make a clearance:

A pretty weak shot:

And Nordfeldt fails to make a save:

Conclusion: A combination of poor defending and goalkeeping.

A corner kick:

The first shot is blocked, but look at the QPR player who is totally free in the middle of our penalty box:

Conclusion: Poor defending.

Swansea 4 : 3 Rotherham

Watch the first Rotherham goal here (0:49)

We clear the ball after Rotherham's throw-in. A high cross into our penalty box follows:

1.png

There are two interesting things here. 1) Where are our players? There are 5 Rotherham's players close to our 6 yards box, and only 3 Swansea players.
2) Nordfeldt's positioning. He doesn't go after the ball and he doesn't stay at the goal line. Typical Nordfeldt, always hesitates and makes poor decisions.

2.png

Conclusion: poor defending and poor goalkeeping.

Rotherham's throw-in:

1.png

We are man-marking and are in a good defensive shape:

2.png

Mike makes a poor headed clearance towards one of the Rotherham players:

A beautiful volley:

4.png

And Nordfeldt can't do anything:

5.png

Conclusion: poor defending but also a beautiful volley.

Watch Rotherham's third goal here (8:10):

Un unchallenged cross to the far post:

A headed pass to a forward running player follows. There are two totally unmarked Rotherham players in our penalty box:

2.png

And a beautiful, powerful volley into the top corner:

3.png

Conclusion: Poor defending and lack of positional awareness but also a beautiful shot.

Swansea 2 : 2 Hull

Watch the first Hull goal here (7:50)

We are two goals up and then this happens. A high cross into the penalty box:

1.png

Who is marking this Hull player?

2.png

Big Mike makes a poor headed clearance:

3.png

A header bypasses our defence while the Swans defenders are trying to set up offside trap. Unfortunately, Routs is sleeping there:

4.png

And an easy goal:

5.png

Conclusion: poor defending.

Swansea 2 : 2 Hull

Watch the second Hull goal here (8:57):

A high cross from the half line towards our penalty box:

1.png

A headed pass to the left flank:

2.png

A low cross to the far post:

3.png

And an easy tap in:

4.png

Conclusion: Well played by Hull but Mike should have reacted better, closed down the late runner and blocked the cross. Also, Naughton was supposed to mark the Hull player who scored the goal. Poor defending.

Blackburn 2 : 2 Swansea

Watch the first Blackburn goal here (1:23):

Yet another Nordfeldt howler.

A cross from the left flank towards the far post:

1.png

One of the Swansea players makes a headed clearance. The ball is high up in the air and falls slowly just behind Nordfeldt:

3.png

Nordfeldt jumps and has enough time catch the ball but decides to punch it away:

4.png

Nordfeldt punches the ball towards a Blackburn player who sends a low cross towards our 6 yards box:

6.png

The ball hits one of the Swansea players in the leg and it's again high up in the air:

Nordfeldt has (again) enough time to catch the ball but he (again) decides to punch it away:

8.png

He totally misses and the ball hits the Blackburn player in the back. The Blackburn player is not aware that he's just scored a goal with his back.

9.png

That was not a header, that was a backer :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:.

10.png

Conclusion: Extremely poor goalkeeping.

Blackburn quickly passes the ball to one of their players in our penalty box:

2.png

A smart flick:

3.png

A good shot:

4.png

And the goal:

5.png

Conclusion: Well played by Blackburn. We can't blame any of our players for this goal.

Here is the overview of the goals Swansea conceded in 2018/19 season:

Screenshot 2019-06-16 at 04.56.44.png

We couldn't do anything (or we could do very little) about the 30 goals we conceded last season:

  1. Opposition scored 22 excellent goals. We saw some fantastic shots from 25-30 yards, powerful shots inside our penalty box, powerful headers, fantastic attacking combinations and smartly executed set-pieces.
  2. The referees have gifted 4 goals to our opponents. Two of them were off-side goals and the other two were wrongly awarded penalties.
  3. 4 goals were unlucky goals: a soft penalty, an own goal and two deflected passes.
32 goals we conceded last season were a result of poor defending, poor goalkeeping and sloppiness in the possession:

  1. 17 conceded goals were a result of poor defending: lack of positional awareness, lack of proper marking, passivity, back-pedaling, failing to block crosses, inability to anticipate what is going to happen and poor defending of set-pieces.
  2. 13 conceded goals were a result of poor goalkeeping: inability to collect crosses (to catch or punch the ball), lack of positional awareness, hesitation, inability to save weak shots, inability to anticipate what is going to happen.
  3. 2 conceded goals were a direct result of sloppiness in passing and bad control of the ball.
It's worrying that a high 41,6 % of all goals we shouldn't have conceded were a direct result of poor/bad/terrible goalkeeping. That's a pretty high number.

Screenshot 2019-06-16 at 06.09.36.png

We still have to put things into perspective and see how many points our goalkeepers earned and how many points they cost us last season. I'm going to do it next weekend.
