I'm sometimes surprised SAF doesn't get more flak for this. His retirement plans were ruined when Aguero scored to take City top, so he stuck around for one more season so he could go out on high. He always had a knack for moving players out of the club at exactly the right time and regenerating the squad in the process, but he knew he didn't have enough time for that. So he let the transfer plans lapse, let a peaking and creaking squad win him his happy ending, and then handed Moyes the leftovers with zero succession plans in terms of players. And once Moyes was in and SAF was out, and the results and football started to nosedive, the club's power to attract players went with it. Sure, the guy probably earned the right to be a little selfish, but in my view, that extra year was the catalyst for all United's struggles since - and all caused by City, to boot. When SAF retired I think he saw the writing on the wall and the team he left Moyes didn't compare to what they once were.
As long as it works today I don't much care what happens to them afterwards. In the mail today Ole says "Beware my hairdryer" ( delusions of grandeur thinks he is SAF)
It didn't do the scum any good did it?
