3 points and 9 goals away from the playoffs. Turning 2 draws into wins could have seen us in Wembley. It's good to see them finish well.

A cracking game. 4 more points and we would be in the play-off places. This recent form is a proof we didn't need any new signings in the January transfer window.

Three or four times today we put an uncessessary pressure on ourselves by playing out from the back. Fortunatelly for us WBA missed three or four huge chances and their wastefulness through the season have cost them play-off places.

We scored some really good goals. Glad for Piroe.

Ha, and I predicted the 3-2 final score; more in hope than conviction I must confess. :D Entertaining game and Piroe's excellent free kick finished it off nicely for us. However, despite this, I have many reservations concerning individual players and certainly about Russell Martin, his decisions and tactics. Because our defence invariably gifts the opposition a goal they haven't had to work for, it means we have to score at least two to win. And if the other team get another one, it means we have to get three, which fortunately was the case today.

But this cannot be allowed to go on!! If we want to be successful next season we must get rid of the habit of giving opponents a head start and a foothold in the game. Undoubtedly this cost us a play-off place and Martin must learn to gear his tactics to the ability of his players; something he patently failed to do this season. We are NOT Manchester City and he should remember that and stop trying to emulate their style of play with players who are not remotely good enough to do it.

We are not far off but there are several lethal flaws in our game that must be eradicated if we are to make the top six in 12 months time.

The Fisher Rule came into play today. When he let's in one, he ultimately concedes two, meaning we need 3 to win. Did they ever try to concede the first goal today; almost like they were on a bribe to do it.

Cundle showed what he's on his way to become.

Point of interest in that today I read that, should Leicester be relegated, they have Russell Martin as top of their wish list. Apparently they regard him as Brendan Rodgers MKII. I hope that's what happens but, strangely, he could well achieve success with them. I say this because he'd be working with a far higher calibre of player than he has with us and they'd be much more capable of implementing his game plan than our lot. That is until he starts diluting their skill levels with Division One players. Mind you, he just might take some of the dross he signed for us as well. 🙏

Excellent finish in the games at the end of the season. All the more galling to see the needless points we chucked away during our lean run. Just a couple less mistakes would have seen us in the play-offs. Some stats from tonight:

POSSESSION: 62-38 SHOTS: 16-10 OT: 4-4 CORNERS: 6-3 FOULS: 13-9 GOALS: 3-2

We had the lion's share of the ball and gave them a goal start, so I suppose our last gasp win was deserved. But I know we'll all be thinking of what could have been in terms of the season as a whole. We threw it away.

Looking at the final table I notice that even if we had beaten Hull (therefore ending up on 68 points) it wouldn't have been enough to make the play-offs.

Lee Trundle spot on here. Even the commentator asked just before we conceded the first goal “What do they gain with this (passing out from the back)?”

So why hasn't Trunds had a word in Martin's ear then? I'm sure he, and others, must have, so now we have to ask why Martin isn't listening.

I think they had, but first in mid-March when we switched to four at the back. Though, Martin's stubborness when it comes to this stupid passing out from the back when under pressure is unbelievable.

If you're going to play out from the back in such tight conditions three key things have to happen: first, there has to be movement off the ball; second, all players local enough to be passed to have to be aware, ready, and make themselves available; third, the player in possession has to keep his cool and make a purposeful pass and not hang the receiver out to dry .... as Manning did to Ntcham.

If the pass isn't there to be had, boot it long, don't panic and try to make a pass that doesn't exist. But, to do that you have to be clued in to what's happening, realize that local options are closed out or being closed out, and act without hesitation. Manning panicked and tried a push the responsibility off to a player in no position to receive the ball and certainly, as it would have shaped up, without any good options to do anything with it had he controlled the ball.

You would think that a player mid-career, not a naïve 18 year old, would have had the common sense and where-with-all and put boot through ball and clear it. Manning had the whole play and options or lack thereof in front of him.

Looking at it again ... Fisher should have just kicked the ball long instead of hanging his two defenders out to dry. What pros, without clear direction to play this way, and this way only, would do this.
