Will we avoid the embarrassment of losing twice to the scum ?

After today's woeful showing I'm dreading next Saturday lunch time !
Them up the road must be laughing their socks off at the prospect of getting their first double over us .
If I was a betting man I know where I'd put my money !
Let's hope that the team will roll their sleeves up , and do us supporters proud .
This is the must win game of the season , COYJB , Get out there and stuff the scum .

I am disappointed with the players. What the hell is going on? It's as if they've forgotten how to play football. Poor first touch, poor ball control, over-hit crosses, over-hit passes, can't hit the target from 10 yards out, passing the ball behind instead of in front of the team-mate, sloppy passes...I could go on.
There's no joy in their football. It's all too mechanical.

Our patterns of play are repetitive and highly predictable and have been for many seasons. Smart opposition sets up to channel our play down the wings, where we almost always stop, turn and pass backwards. Rinse and repeat. We go 20 yards forwards then 25 yards back, sometimes a lot further. Since we don't often cross, or cross well, it's easy to deploy counter measures. Ronald and PP have gone some way to add some bite to these patterns, but against Bristol the bite was not really there.

I understand that Williams is different from Madness and Duff ... but are we really seeing that much difference ... and are the differences driven more by the players involved (Ronald and PP).

We may be easy on the eye, but boring to watch and easy to repel. It's only when we are able to break rapidly and don't follow our routine patterns that we seem to score or create chances to score. Frankly, we'd be better off giving the ball away to the opposition, inviting them to attack, blocking them low, and then breaking forward on a counter. When we press high, we recover high, but more often than not the opposition is already organized and in position to defend.

Couple all of that with a day of inferior quality and the opposition can bide their time and steal a win from a jammy flick on from a cross.

We have scored recently when we have pressed high, but that's been the result of a long (ish) ball down field, collected deep by the oppositions' defenders and we press high or higher and regain possession between the lines (defense and midfield) either in front of their box or inside their half and attack briskly. So ... the irony is ... when we hog the ball like we did against Bristol we deny ourselves the opportunity to be most effective.

This is 100% the reason I dislike possession-focussed systems, and this game plan is near enough what I would use instead. Put the ball in the opponents third, if you don't have it, press and win it, then shoot. Then do it again until the scoreboard looks right. Then keep doing it until the whistle goes. Everything else is just noise.

A sequence of three or four passes is enough to get the ball into your opponent's half. Then cross or shoot. Send 5 players to attack the opponent's box. There will always be rebounds. Take a shot again. Do this at least 20 times in a match and you'll score at least 2 goals.

I am talking about situations where we have the ball in our own half, but I prefer counter-press and winning the ball in the opposition's third.

Pretty quiet here. Is everyone ok?
Now that you ask I'm feeling really rough. Out of nowhere yesterday evening, I got a really persistent hacking cough and I'm constantly bringing a whole lot of muck out of my lungs spitting that out and blowing my nose non-stop. It was so bad last night that I couldn't lie down in bed because I couldn't breathe properly. Spent a miserable night in my recliner chair and have hardly eaten anything today. My cough is so bad my entire body is aching - as badly as it ever did after a tough fight when I was boxing all those years ago!! Hope I feel better tomorrow. I live on my own and feel so rough I can't do a thing other than try and sleep all day.

Lindy and i still have it .I caught it first and passed it on to Lindy . That was 2 months ago and we are still coughing up flegm !
Lindy has COPD so it's affecting her terribly as she is struggling to breathe all the time and it's leaving her exhausted and incapable of functioning.
A bitch of a virus that doesn't want to let go !

I suppose the lucky thing is that I had just started a course of antibiotics to deal with a gum infection that had flared up again. So the meds are doing two jobs now.

O'Dowda could play 45-60 minutes, Ramsey hasn't played in a month and is at risk of reinjury. That could help us. Hoping we don't have any defensive lapses and give away easy goals.
