Swans v Scum

Somebody grab hold of Cooper, smack him upside the head, and tell him to pay attention to this game.

If We had split the points at home over the past several weeks we would now be undisputed top of table.

I love Byers, his sliding tackle about 76:34 broke up an attack. Then he got right into it when that yellow card came out. He's a Scrappy player. All I can say is thank god they came around for this one.

Ayew was MOM and I thought he was immense. He contributed all over the park and, okay, maybe he should have got a goal or two..... and so should have Celina. But let's not dwell on that and look at the performance. It was all round excellent especially when compared to recent performances. We looked the Swans of old, rarely looked threatened and played with a tempo and fluency that was a breath of fresh air. Now we must hope that Cooper has learned his lesson and sets us up for future games along these lines.

1. I don't understand why you guys don't like Surridge. He was involved in every Swansea counter-attack in the closing stages of the game. He's got technique, he is excellent in the air and he's got pace.

2. Celina was (again) wasteful today. Should've scored at least two gosls. He was selfish as well in one situation when Surridge was in a better position.

3. Ayew and Routs had a great game.

4. Cardiff are an awfull hoofing football team.

5. I would continue with playing Ayew as a striker and two dedicated wingers. Or even Ayew as ATM and Surridge up front. Celina is knackered, he needs some rest.

Ayew plays with heart, he was flying. I don't like blaming him for taking the shot at the end that was always going to get blocked. There was a lot of that, not just Ayew. Swans did well on defense. Broke up and defended almost every attack. The away match will be much more difficult.

Rodon out for months that's bad news. At least Wilmot and Naughton can fill in. Likely Wilmot as a CB. Is Wilmot going to be worth a £30 million transfer fee? Seems a little high, betting on his growth and future there. Looks like he'll get plenty of chances to prove it.

Some stats from the game:

POSSESSION: 57-43 SHOTS: 19-8 OT: 5-3 CORNERS: 9-3 FOULS: 12-15 GOALS: 1-0 I said GOALS 1-0 :):):)

Notice the only stat that Cardiff beat us on was the foul count!

I was surprised. Were we that good, or Cardiff that bad? I suppose it was a mixture of both but I expected a second half onslaught from Cardiff that never materialised. We really did seem in control for 90% of that match and could easily have got 2 or 3 more on another day.

One thing is for sure. The template for Cooper now to follow has been well and truly established, or should I say re-established. And I will say this: if Cooper throws it out of the window in future games then I hope that the club will see to it that he follows pretty sharpish. His tinkering has cost us points that could have seen us cosily sat at the top of the table. He got it right today, fair play, but he, and we, need a lot more days like today. That said, it's well done to him and the lads for a great performance and result. MORE PLEASE!!

@CroJack ... nothing against Surridge but the better option as a replacement for Dyer was Peterson. It would have introduced a winger with speed, skill and something to prove, kept a successful shape, and avoided reverting to Cooper’s ill conceived preference of playing two #9s.

What was glaringly obvious from today’s game is that Routs and Dyer have plenty to offer, that playing two proper wingers gets our FBs into the game on attack and provides better opportunity generation at this level, and that Ayew’s strongest position is as a #9. Ayew or Borja are interchangeable at #9 ... on today’s showing Ayew can be a massive handful for defenders in the role that gives him license to be here there and everywhere.

Best atmosphere for many years , the jack army was loud and proud today , let's hope they keep that going and the extra 4,000 that found a seat come back for the rest of the season.
The scum were woeful , we were sharper but wasteful both in midfield and in front of goal , both Celina and Ayew guilty of shooting when team mates were open in better positions , Byers passing was beyond awful but everyone put in a decent shift with nobody shirking today.
