Stevenage v Swans

There are lots of interesting HT scores, Doncaster 1 up on Blackburn, Blackpool 1 over West Brom, MK Dons 1 over Burnley. Best of all Nottingham victorious over Cardiff. Chorley beat Derby 2-0.

Nothing to write home about is there? We are lazy and sloppy allowing Stevenage to call more and more of the shots as the game went on. Old racing driver, world champion Jack Brabham, said that his favourite tactic was to win the race in the slowest possible time. We seem to be trying to win the game with the least possible effort.

As for Gyokeres, the more I see of him the less I rate him and I don't see the point of starving our own player, Cullen, of game time just to appease Brighton. If we aren't careful we might lose this, so we'd better up our game sharpish.

I thought Garrick had most that ball, very impressive. Good for Garrick and Gyokeres to get in there.

I agree with Cullen. He should get at least 30 minutes today.

That was a poor, uninspired effort. But hey ho we go into the draw for the next round.
I liked the look of their right back, would make good cover for Connor.

It would have been a disgrace if we'd lost against League Two bottom dwellers Stevenage and it might even have happened! I see why Gyokeres never starts - he gives the ball away all the time - and Cullen the same when he came on. Garrick very disappointing - has the speed but doesn't seem to have the strength to get past defenders. This game showed that perhaps we don't have the depth I thought we had!

If we want someone to hold the ball up front then I would suggest someone like Glen Murray who can do that in his sleep - and score goals as well. I honestly think that Gyokeres is not the answer and for that matter, neither is Cullen. It's NOT Cullen's game; he's too small for that and it's a waste of time expecting it from him.

He's a 'fox-in'the-box' type and needs the ball in there to do his stuff. I mean Gary Lineker was never any good at holding the ball up; neither was Michael Owen or Robbie Fowler and many others like them but they were all top goalscorers because their coaches knew their strengths and played to them. Expecting Cullen to battle big defenders is a classic case of square pegs and round holes.

If Cooper wants the best from Cullen he needs to give him regular starts and use his predatory instincts in the right way, which involves getting the ball to Cullen in and around the box. Do that and the goals will come.

Been thinking further about our team needs and, upon reflection, it's a shame we upset Leeds over Dan James (mind you, they'll never be able to repay the debt they owe us for John Charles!! :D ). But we could solve our striker and playmaker problems at a stroke if they would do business with us.

I'd be delighted to get Tyler Roberts on loan for instance. He's strong and quick, able to hold up the ball for runners to go past him. And who better than Pablo Hernandez to slot in at #10 to provide those subtle short passes to open up defences. I know he's getting on at 35 but he's well capable of performing at a high level and is still a class player. Thoughts anyone?

Pablo would be the key to unlock tight defenses in the last 20 minutes of a game. Not a 90 minute player, although coming out of Bielsa's training I'd bet he'd be the fittest player in the squad.

Not familiar with T Roberts. But I agree that Vik is not up to par. I'd rather persevere with Cullen in a combination with one of Jamal or Ayew as we need to. If Cullen plays then Dhanda should also play as he is the consumate front foot, ball carrying, pass making #10 ... needs work still but has plenty of potential.
