"Jamie Paterson's Swansea City future has been thrown into major doubt amid a row over his contract extension at the club. Paterson is understood to be unhappy with the terms of his contract extension with the Swans and it has been revealed he missed Saturday's 1-1 draw with Huddersfield after saying he was not in the right frame of mind to play."

Fuck-him. He's over his best years at 30. If I recall, he was persona non grata at his last club over some attitude he had to something or other. Looks like it's rinse and repeat.

In the parts of the second half that I saw against Huddersfield ... Lati surprised me by trying to take players on out side and swinging some cross over ... let's persevere with him and put somebody else up front alongside Piroe. Letting Cullen go doesn't seem so smart now does it. Maybe this is why Joseph was recalled.

On reflection, it’s probable that someone made him a promise of a pay rise depending on performance. They reneged, he’s taken his bat home. Silly boy, really, because he is just reinforcing his reputation as a bad boy and he’s not good enough to get away with that.

Question: did we miss him against Huddersfield. Can we say with certainty that he would have made a difference? Or would he have wasted the ball in tight situations but doing his customary turn up his own arse routine and lost possession.

I'm guessing the reason is financial. Let's face it, that's the main grievance of most footballers, greedy, overpaid bunch that they are.

But now Russell Martin has entered the fray by saying that he needs more money to improve the squad. Fat chance!! It's why Potter walked away and possibly Cooper too. It seems likely to me that this could be the reason Pato won't get his raise. Our owners enjoy parting with cash as much as Dracula loves stakes and crosses.

So is Pato worth it? My general response is that ALL footballers are grossly overpaid at the top two levels. But I guess he's comparing what he gets with the salaries of others and reckons he's worth more. Depends on his contract, though, doesn't it? He was happy to sign it when we rescued him from his nadir at Brizzle, so he should see it through. On the other hand, if the club made him promises then, in turn, they should keep them.

PS: Huddersfield's Welsh international, Sorba Thomas, apparently told his team mates that we were easily the best side they have played this season. Pato wasn't playing. So, were we better without him or might we have won with him? You pays your money.......

Martin wants money to improve his squad ... this is laughable, when he hasn't figured out how to make best use of what he has.

He was given Piroe and yet he's managed to coach Piroe into a drought. He was given Whitaker and Cullen and Fulton and yet he couldn't figure out how to use them. Put one in the stands and sent the other two to Lincoln. He was given a keeper in Benda yet dropped him when the defensive system he put in place in front was unplayable by those he picked and persists with Hamer who is one of the weaker keepers we've had in the last 12 years except for Woody. He was given Ntcham but will not start him regularly, and won't play him a full 90 despite Oli being the best offensive player we have in midfield.

Martin needs to STFU and win some games. Play a system that gets the best out of the players on hand ... and if he can't figure that out then put a call into Sousa who will tell him how. Actually, why don't we just go and hire Sousa.

An alternative explanation is that Pato listened to the incessant praise coming his way from RM, registered that they were opening up the option to extend the contract four games earlier than originally agreed and assumed everyone thought he was God's gift to creative midfielders. When the raised expectations were not met the thump as he hit the ground was extra-hard! We may not see much more effusive praise by RM of players who are ready for contract renewal in the future.

Also, I hope they docked his pay for the last week - in what other profession do you get to say "Naw, don't think I'll work this week. My head's not in the right place"!
