I like watching the odd programme on the Talking Pictures telly channel because it brings back memories from my formative years. Sometimes it's a let-down because, by today's standards, the production values stink, the plots are thin and sometimes the acting leaves a lot to be desired. Not at all as I remember things. But I make allowances for that and still enjoy much of the content. It's also fun to see some now famous actors in bit part roles when they were learning their craft. For instance, I saw Michael Caine playing a 'heavy' in one film and he had about two lines of dialogue in it.
They also show old tv series and I've been watching re-runs of Public Eye starring Alfred Burke (??) as Brighton PI, Frank Marker, which I used to enjoy back in the day. It's very low key with no frills and set in 1969 but enjoyable for all that. What made me laugh was when he was asked by a client, who wanted to stay overnight in Brighton, if he knew of any decent digs that didn't cost more than 25 shillings (£1.25!) He suggested his own digs that cost him 22/6 with breakfast INCLUDED!!! How times have changed.
