Timo Werner had a similar chance today to those missed by Lowe. He buried it! Okay, I get that he's a multi-million pound international striker but those chances that Lowe missed would have been easy for ANY striker worthy of the name. Look, I'm not getting at Lowe; in general he tries his best and contributes, for which he has my respect. But, as our main striker, he's a square peg in a round hole. And I haven't see much from Gyokeres either to convince me that he's the man for the job.
Cooper needs to remove his blinkers and select players to do the jobs they're good at. He's missing his chance, so far, to integrate Cullen gently into the role at this level. And I'll tell you what's going to happen when he eventually does. Cullen will be over anxious, will be trying too hard to please, instead of relaxing and doing what comes naturally. He'll be running around like a headless chicken and snatching at his chances because he'll feel that he needs to impress on the few opportunities he gets. Some clever psychology is needed to bring young players on, particularly strikers, and I wonder if Cooper has that in his arsenal.
