Note Cooper's lack of reaction when Brewster went to celebrate his goal with him. Not so much as a flicker, not even a hint of elation, He reflected our performance - lifeless with no energy or urgency. Is it any wonder that we're falling away? Cooper couldn't inspire a man dying of thirst to take a sip of water.
There was so much wrong with this performance I can't cover it all. Byers ran around and affected nothing. Gallagher was equally pants. Grimes was anonymous, again, and Celina couldn't even make 10 yards passes when he came on. As for pace, have we any at all? And that includes Brewster (great free kick though). All I can say is thank God for Andre Ayew, a class above anyone else in the team.
He's been accused of not keeping position in the past. In this team he has to try and be everywhere plugging gaps in the dyke. He tries to create, score and defend as well. Definitely kept one goal out. What was he doing there? Plugging yet another gap. He must be royally pissed off playing in this team. Then there were the corners. Seeing as Millwall are one of the tallest teams in the Division, why not keep hoisting high balls into the box for them to routinely clear?
Why didn't we vary it? Try a short corner or deliver the ball low at pace into the goalmouth where tall defenders might struggle. Not us!! Just lob it onto the heads of a collection of lighthouses, who were delighted to deal with them all afternoon. Anyway, 'nuff said, we've blown it and Cooper no doubt thinks he's done a good job. He can thank his lucky stars that Potter's influence gave us a blistering start to the season. Once he put his stamp on things, we've shown near relegation form. Thank you, Trevor Birch, I hope you make more enlightened decisions in the future - that is if you can squeeze any in between the 'yes, sirs', that I guess is your usual dialogue with our so-called owners.
