Leeds Cool on Bartley

@Borini ... this McKenna kid was made captain of Scotland against Mexico as couple of months ago. It appears he is very highly regarded. Looks like he would be a strong replacement but I am not sure that Aberdeen are going to let him go.
The problem is the quality of Scottish prem league is about the equivalent of our First division two or three clubs are good enough for the championship and none good enough for the prem.
The Scottish press presents all their teams as world beaters ... Until they get hammered in Europe then they slag them off. He might have captained Scotland ...but Fat Ash Williams captains Wales. !!

It seems like Potts like a lot of what he sees. There is also a big move towards younger and better players: Dhanda and Asoro for example and we have the return of Grimes and Fulton, and the step-up of McB and James and perhaps others. I have to believe that these players are going to make a challenge for the positions occupied by Routs, Dyer, Narsingh, the Ayews, Fer etc. Can they really be any worse. McKenna would be an upgrade on Bartley especially since we only paid Arsenal 1 million and he's probably 4th or 5th on the depth list at CB. And Burnley are sniffing around Clucas.

The thing about Bartley is so much like so many of the quality players offloaded on us is that they are walking sick notes - injury prone is injury prone and some players do seem a bit on the delicate or aged side which would be ok in itself, but they don’t get statutory sick pay - they get full pay so we need fit young players who can outpace others or can have tackles bounce off them without too much damage being done - buying the sicklings off other clubs has rarely done us good - hopefully we will see the last of the buy cheap buy twice mentality if the backroom and scouting staff are doing their homework.......and HJ keeps his nose out of their business.

Just took a look at young Scott on Wiki and it seems he's very highly thought of North of the border with a lot of potential. Aberdeen turned down an offer from Hull for the CB, who stands just short of 6ft 3", in January of this year. Not the tallest/shortest and, at 21 years old, still has to develop some physicality which he would need in the Championship. But, if he has a good football brain, there would be good basics to work from.

Might be a good companion for Ollie too - as everyone has said the Scottish leagues are not a reliable marker for standards south of the border - John Hartson called it right when he said it was like playing Sunday league football for premier league wages having said that they have a much better set up and local following than their Welsh counterparts - save for one decent club and one south eastern flook :p
