Exactly. Williams will likely play a high enough line that any fouls will hopefully happen outside the box anyway. I like Pedersen, but beyond him there's just Darling, Cabango and Humphries for a total 4 CBs. If Williams plays 3 at a time, then cover is slim and Darling's curious mix of skills means a creative coach like Williams might see other uses for him from time to time.

Remember, when Martin arrived, Cooper played at the start of the season away to Bristol City. We won 0:1 and Cooper according to Martin was "magnificent" ... then Wood and Darling showed up and Cooper was set aside in favor of Martin's new toys. I am confident that Cooper can do a solid job for us and the more he plays the stronger he will become at this level.

Josh Thomas has come back from Port Vale now too. Did the loan expire or does Williams want him involved too?

I checked on the Club's web site, the original new posting that announced the loan referenced a season long loan.

Seems to have picked up an injury at the end of November. Played in 4 of 5 of the Wales U21 matches, sub'd on in the first 2, started the second 2, picked up a red in game 4. Has not been in the Port Vale squad since the last Wales match.

Maybe he is best served by recovering from the injury and regaining fitness here

We have four dedicated centre-backs + Naughton and Pedersen who can play as centre-backs. Cooper should be sent out on loan again.

If fit, I can only say that Thomas is going to provide competition for Yates most certainly since Cullen has been reassigned to RM/W purgatory.

I don't think of Naughton as a CB ... not at his age and physical stature. And Pedersen didn't exactly shine in the cup match. I'd keep Cooper around. His efforts at Orient are deserving of better treatment.
