January 2024 Transfer Window

Don't see much about him, 20 years old. Has been at Standard Liege in Belgium this season, was in the Spurs youth squad previously, left on a free. Right and left winger.

Another manager name out there is former Swansea youth manager and current Man U assistant Eric Ramsay. Brief time with Wales national team as an assistant. Worked with Ole and I would suspect Giggsy as well. Just 31 years old, ten Haag has been reluctant to part with him in the past.

I'm pretty sure we won't sign any £5m-rated players in the January transfer window.
I saw that as well, very doubtful and scoring Luke Williams and Langstaff would likely cost us. But there are a lot of transfer rumours out there already which is a good sign. It's not all quiet on the Western front. Supposedly there have been new investors so maybe they will spend. They will probably sell off someone. I fear losing Grimes but I think he's happy here.

Jordan Thomas is an attack midfielder from Bath wanted by a lot of EFL clubs. He looks strong for a 22 year old player. Doesn't stand out too much in highlights, number 15. I think his value is based in his potential. He could easily be valued in the £10 - 20 million range in a few years so he could be be an investment.

He's 22 playing for Bath!?! And in a few years, when he's say 25 to 26, he's going to be worth how much!?!?! If he's so hot at 22 why is he still at Bath.

Strange happenings, Leyton Orient cancelled the Brandon Cooper loan even though he was a stand out. Red cars seems to have triggered the move.

it's what happens when a player moves up, it doesn't always make sense.
Look at Flynn Downes who we bought in August 21 for £1.7 million and sold July 22 for £10.65 million.

The Cooper thing is weird. In the article I read it wasn't clear if it was Orient who cancelled the loan or Swansea. I heard Cooper had "lost his way" recently after a strong start and picked up that red card, but I've not heard of a loan being cancelled over a red before, and he was a starter there too.

It makes more sense if it was Swansea who cancelled because that might mean Luke Williams thinks he can use him. Even if it was Orient's decision, it might not hurt to have another option at CB available.

The only logical reason to recall Cooper is if Humphreys has been recalled along with Ashby. Or, somebody just got crocked in training.

It was Orient who terminated his contract. And it seems that the red card was just the final nail in the coffin after a series of poor performances.

"A great start and a fantastic debut at Exeter but just lost his way in recent months. Shame it didn’t work out but wish him all the best. Definitely a player there."

"Started off very well but sadly fell apart. The ridiculous red card against Derby was the final nail in his coffin."

This is a big shame. I thought he looked good in the few starts he had at Swansea. Obviously raw, but promising.

It’s not clear from the article whether the loan was for six months and ended naturally or for a full season. It’s also not clear what they meant by lost his way.

Here is his playing record: Brandon Cooper - Stats 23/24

He made his debut on 9/5 in the efl trophy against Gillingham when he received a red card for double yellow.

he then started regularly in the league and fa cup, then the red card match, then missed three through suspension, then was not in the squad for the 12/29 match, then started the 1/1 match that they won 0:2 away. Obviously thought well enough of to make the start on 1/1 … he hadn’t “lost his way” for that match.

🤷🏻‍♂️

Cooper is not the only defender to have ever decked an opposing player and received a straight red. Mel Nurse did it to Alan Clark in an FA Cup tie against Leeds in 1971(?) when we were leading 0:1 … and don’t forget how badly Pintado wanted a piece of Savage in that match against Derby. Just because shit happens once doesn’t mean he’s permanently lost his shit. We have certain players in the squad that do stupid on too regular a basis for my liking.

question now is where does he fit in?

This is why the move seems odd to me, too, and why I wondered if this was at Swansea's instigation instead - the squad needs better CB depth and the owners are tight, so it makes sense to me.

I saw both of his red cards on YouTube - nothing hyper-violent.

The stamp was a minor reaction to a clumsy two-footed tackle the other guy put on him, and definitely not as bad as it sounds.

The elbow was similar - he was backing into the other guy to protect his space and win the ball, and he did swing an arm, but the other guy overreacted and I don't think it hit his head anyway.

Here's the original news page on the Club's web site: Brandon Cooper moves to Leyton Orient on loan | Swansea

It was a 6 month loan. He's back at loan's end. By all accounts, we've got a better, seasoned player back. Cooper has never put a foot wrong playing for the our 1st team in league or cup. Solid and dependable ... unlike some of the other defenders I could mention. And, developed with the Swanselona DNA deeply ingrained. He's one of our own. I'd like to think that he can challenge for a starting role or at least a seat on the bench. Compared to the likes of Pederson, for example, he's not second place IMHO.

In 17 matches this season, he's picked up 6 yellows. A relatively clean record suggesting he's been comfortably doing his job and not having to foul out of desperation or being badly beaten. 👏 👏 👏
