Well done to Pato and well done to Liam who had Ian Walsh in raptures for a 'brilliant' assist. PHEW!!! A vital three points from a crap display. Radio comms were absolutely NOT impressed with what they were watching and I hope the moronic cheapskates at the Liberty don't use this result as an excuse to give Sheehan the job. Every man and his dog knows that he's not up to it. He just isn't. We don't want a cheap option; we want and need an experienced professional coach who can get the squad playing as well as we know they can. No excuses. Just fcuking DO IT!!

Back to 6 points out of playoffs. Plenty to play for. Top players coming back into the mix. Wood, Allen. Wood got some minutes at the end. Looking forward to giving some misery to Martin’s Maddneas

The 3 points will build some confidence , let's hope we press high and hard at Southampton and Martins madness may gift us 3 more .
We know they'll faff about at the back so we need a high press with a lot of intensity to pressure them into mistakes as you say. We also need to keep the ball as much as possible, they won't be used to that. At least I hope the players will perform with pride and energy to prove a point - and go on to win at least a point.

They are too good attacking wise, they have a better midfield, and they don't give away silly goals anymore.

Oh, and I forgot this - they move the ball much faster than we do.

Hardly a performance to get us rocking in the aisles but tonight the three points were worth more than anything. However, we aren't playing well and getting results in future games is going to be a struggle until we start playing with more tempo, cohesion and fluency. Too many of our players are turning up and just doing what they have to. And no more. But we need the whole team to step up and put in the extra effort that wins games and builds momentum. For me that won't be until we get a manager/coach who restores our identity and gets the squad playing to its strengths. Some stats:

POSSESSION: 62-38 SHOTS: 10-9 OT: 4-4 CORNERS: 4-3 FOULS: 10-8 GOALS: 2-1

What worries me is that yet again a team with far less possession, more or less matched us for shots and OT efforts. This should not be the case. It shows that we aren't making sufficiently effective use of our possession. The whole object of the game is to create chances, get shots away and score goals. Far too often our opponents better us at that despite having far less of the ball. And if the coaches at the Liberty can't see what's happening and address the problem then they're even worse than I think they are. Come on, Mr Coleman, get your arse in gear and do your job because right now very few fans think you are.

Tv Comms stated tonight that CT was in the West Stand and seen talking to Curtis. He may be in town for family reasons or business reasons … time will tell.

Some positives tonight were defeated with some negatives ….On a number of occasions we passed through PNE like a hot knife through butter to the edge of the box and then instead of finishing the move with a quality shot it fell apart. Sheehan stressed the need to be more ruthless in/around the box in his prematch talk but clearly with only one recognized forward on the field in Lowe we don’t have the right players on the ball at the end of these moves. I take comfort from at least seeing those moves happen. Under Duffer that was absent.

Pato deserves kudos tonight for two superbly taken goals. He’s not my cup of tea, but he is delivering and getting his job done … Almost impossible to drop.

Read a report today that the game was utterly rancid and so devoid of entertainment that it had the 15,000 spectators wishing they had spent their Friday evening elsewhere. Ian Walsh made the same point in commentary. Alan Sheehan has done reasonably well in terms of points but he's not the answer as can clearly be seen from that (non)performance.

Btw, Ian Walsh described Liam's assist as brilliant. As much as I champion Liam, I'm afraid I can't agree. When I saw the goals I certainly didn't think his assist was 'brilliant'. It was a competent and obvious pass that any decent professional should have seen and executed. All credit to Liam - he did see it and he did execute it perfectly. But brilliant? Not for me: though I was delighted with the result! :)

Cullen’s pass … in the darkness even a dim light is brilliant

with the way others were squandering opportunity, it was if nothing else, as you say, obvious and quietly competent from a player that had moved to the right place at the right time to deal with a loose ball. If everybody else was quietly competent, we wouldn’t be laboring in games like this.
