Here’s the list: Free agents … since we are now basement bargain hunters this list is our inventory. There are some interesting names on the list.

wilshire at 29.
David Luiz at 34
Borja baston at 28
Sturridge at 31
Tom Carroll 29
Andy Carroll 32
Robson-Kanu at 32
Neil Taylor at 32

Not advocating for anyone in particular - just an interesting list of names.

We have a lot of talent but limited experience in the squad … a sprinkle of quality, been there, done that might go a long way. Ayew was that guy last season.

Sturridge has played under Rodgers at Liverpool, which is a big plus in my book. But we need number 10 more than anything else.

IF WE COULD AFFORD THE WAGES there are some good possibilities there. If he keeps injury free Wilshire could be that creative spark we so urgently need. Don't laugh but Andy Carroll would be a brilliant target man at this level and he's a lot better on the deck than he's given credit for and fairly mobile for a big man. And neither would I write off Borja who's still quite young and could do a job for us. Luiz would bring a wealth of experience and could still operate well at this level even allowing for his odd lapses.

i suppose a case could be made for most of them to varying degrees and I agree with what @CroJack says about the #10.

I think we possibly could afford the wages Ivor, but getting the yanks to pay them is a different matter.
Maybe with a bit of professionalism back in the club and hopefully a good start to the season we may attract a investor/buyer, if the yanks want out. I have a good feeling about this season, as Martin says, everyone starts with a clean slate as from today.

I mentioned Sturridge because he's got pace and is a good passer. Sturridge and Suarez used to be a deadly duo at Liverpool. Sturridge is fit now and ready to go, but I think his ambition is to play Premier League football.

I am a big fan of Andy Carroll. Excellent striker when fit.

I would take Borja as well. He is a Spaniard and passing football is in his genes.

A fit Wilshere would be an excellent addition to our midfield.

I've never been a big fan of Robson-Kanu, Neil Taylor and Tom Carroll.

David Luiz is an excellent player but out of our reach.

There are numerous other players on the list, many that I'm not familiar with, that have varying and potentially better fitness for purpose than the ones I mentioned.

I would concur with all of the comments made above. I think it is clear that a little salt and pepper to season the squad wouldn't go amiss.

The only problem with Andy Carroll is that a #9 with his attributes imposes a certain style of play on the rest of the team - not perhaps in keeping with what we would ideally like to see - but Carroll could still be a very effective unit at this level.

Some interesting free agents still available.

Jack Wilshire - we know all about him. Can find a killer pass way better than anyone we've got!!!

Kwadwo Asamoah - 74 cap Ghana international aged 33. Described as a dynamic, hard-working, versatile and tactically intelligent game reader, he has pace, strength, stamina and outstanding technical characteristics. Primarily a ball winner, he can operate as a FB, WB, wide left midfielder and even as a box to box central midfielder on occasion. He is known as a powerful striker of the ball from distance, skilful dribbler and a neat passer. Former teams include Juventus, Inter Milan and Cagliari. BTW, he has won SIX Serie A titles, FOUR Italian Cups and THREE Italian Super Cups. o_O On occasion has been injury prone though.

Diego Costa - We know all about him as well. Would score at our level and bring a bit of nasty with it.

Bafe Gomis - Another well known to us. Would he get goals at our level?

Don't know how you all feel about this list but the way we're performing right now any of that lot could make the team if they only had one leg!!

It would cost too much, I.e. over £1,000, to persuade them to come to somewhere they wouldn’t dream of going.
With a fair chance of PL next term, maybe, but ……

What we have in the squad at the moment is like the land of the misfit toys. Round pegs, forced into square holes. We're forcing defenders to become wingers, when what we need are wingers. We can't figure out an attacking formation that allows Piroe + 1 to form a strike partnership. And, I don't recognize what we were playing across our back line last night ... 2 at the back with whoever else was there roving forward ... again to paraphrase @CroJack defenders doing the unnatural. Worst of all, we're not doing the defending part properly; assignments are being missed or dropped and the opposition always seems strong enough and sharp enough to pounce and score their goal or two with slim possession.

It's somewhat irrelevant who we bring in at the moment. It's not the players we have or have loaned out or let go that are the problem. Martin's Madness is the problem. Opposition are now conceding us the middle third of the park and effectively parking the bus and we have no clue or shape to unlock the situation. We crossed more against Luton but still not often enough and not with enough quality. We don't shoot or rather put the ball on net enough to stress the keeper and we're not following up when we do to look for seconds.

We're facing forward but driving in reverse.

We obviously need quality and I feel that one or more, or someone similar, might come to us on reasonable terms as they are in the twilight of their careers and might fancy one last hurrah in the game. And maybe, just maybe, as I suggested with Bony, put themselves in the shop window for one last half-decent contract. Personally, I would have snapped up Wilf Bony in a heartbeat on the right terms.

How on earth have we missed Fernando Llorente who plays now for the Spanish second division club Eibar. I am 100% sure he doesn't earn more than £10k a week there. Imagine feeding him with crosses? Also Bony...

Couldn't agree more CJ, but it seems quality players are fast becoming a distant dream, the odds are starting to stack up against us, ie possible league 1 football, an inexperienced manager, and tight fisted owners, hardly the ingredients to tempt decent players, could you possibly blame Matt O'Riley choosing Celtic over us, apart from it probably having a religious twist to it also.

The owners may have succeeded in making us the only profitable club in the Championship, for this season only.
Next time the challenge will be to do it all again in League One.
As for any ageing hero coming to us, forget it, unless, as Yankee says, they are willing to pay for the privilege.

To understand Eibar, think of Blaenavon. The largest flattest piece of land in the place is the football field, which is perched 1/3 up one of the two mountains lining the narrow valley. It’s an “interesting” place to drive into, if you’re assured you can drive out of it the same day. There is one industry of note in town … bicycle manufacturing … if you’re not employed making a bike there’s not much else to do. In the winter the sun doesn’t peek into the valley until around 11:00 am. Nice people but the population is rapidly aging and shrinking as the youngest and ablest get the hell out of dodge as soon as they can. Last time I checked, 2017, the population was 27,000 … the stadium capacity was 9,000.

Being Basque himself, and Eibar stuck in the middle of the region, is the only thing I can think of that is stopping Llorente from throttling his agent.

@CroJack ... exactly it. This view is taken from the main stand across the pitch and the valley looking at the mountain on the other side. Although from that photo the mountain in the background doesn't appear that close or high, but in realty the valley is quite narrow and they are a significant feature. The two tower blocks have the best view of the match and stand on the opposite side of the street running along that side of the stadium. In 2018, the Club's Foundation offices were in a office units behind the stand that you see. At that time I was there many of the units were vacant.

There is a narrow plateau of sorts running along the stadium side of the valley on which stadium stands and to the left as we look there is a separate training ground.

The second clip says all goals by FL but there are many missing. Happy, happy days going to Liverpool and scoring 3 against Klopp & Co in a win. Fernando is a lot older and slower now but I have to wonder if he could still do it at this level.
