Championship Season 2022/23 Round 2 xGoals

xGoals from Coventry v Rotherham game are missing. The game has been postponed.

xGoals Table

We are still high in this table and that's because we
created a lot of chances against Rotherham
The team of the week must be WBA who totally
outplayed Watford at home turf and should have won
comfortably. But WBA attackers have left their
shooting boots at home. The match ended 1:1.

Goals For Table

Blackburn are joint-leaders thanks to the gifts
from the Swansea defence.
The biggest losers so far are Preston who didn't manage to
score a single goal despite collecting 4.75 xGoals in
their first two games. They should have 6 points, and
they have only 2.

xPoints Table

Still no worries for the Swans who should have
won one and lost one. Three expected points
from two games is (still) not a catastrophe.

Real Points Table

Still early days to draw any conclusions.

xGoals Against Table

This is what we should be worrying about.
We give away too many high quality chances.
But have a look at Watford!

Shots For Table

Here we are - already in the bottom half.
Need to shoot more!

Shots Against Table

When it comes to preventing shots our passing style
of football is working. So far we have conceded only 14 shots.
The bad news is we have conceded 4 goals from 14 shots
which is 28.5 shots/goals conversion rate. Sometimes it
feels like our opponents score from every shot they fire
towards our goal.

Shots On Target Table

Well, this looks good, but as far as I remember
we had 6 quality shots in Rotherham game, and only
one against Blackburn.

Shots On Target Against Table

This one looks really bad and confirms what we all know -
we give away high quality chances so our opponents can't miss the target.
From 14 conceded shots 12 of them hit the target. Terrible.

Those quality shots against stats are definitely the worst part of Martinball. All Swansea's work is so easily undone because the opposition are given early xmas presents every week. I guess this is what playing 1-8-1 gets you :sneaky:

With high percentage returns of goals per shots against, is this a statement against Fisher or the defense in general.

This is a statement against our style of play that lets Fisher and our defence down. There will always be stupid defensive mistakes as long we use high back-line in combo with slow players, and as long as we always pass the ball from the back, even when we are under tremendous pressure.

Saying all that, Fisher and our defenders could/should be better.
