I understand what you say, CJ, but my reference to good form was a broad brushstroke to indicate that, no matter how Brizzle have been playing, they've still accumulated sufficient points to be well placed in the table. Just like us in fact. So they, and ourselves, have been doing something right to be where we are.
I've pointed out in one of my previous posts what we have been doing right.
- Our work rate is excellent
- We have a belief that we can win every game
- We play football for 90 minutes and never give up
- We are clinical at converting chances into goals
- We have a good goalkeeper who is not afraid of crosses
- We throw bodies on the line to block shots
- We don't concede from set pieces
- We have added a little more physicallity to our game
So, there are many positives in our play which should be included when we talk about one team's form. Expected goals is the most important metrics, but it's not the only one. One team can produce many chances but never convert them into goals. Brentford are such a team. If you have donkeys as strikers who can't hit the target, the vast majority of your chances are wasted. Or, if you have a donkey of a goalkeeper, you'll concede more.
But one thing is clear. We won't be scoring goals and win games if we don't start creating more chances, and we'll start conceding more if we allow opposition to create so many chances against us. Our front men can't be so effective in the long run, and we won't be able to block so many shots against us in the long run. The last two games have proved that we must improve. Passing at higher tempo, better pressing, running forward with the ball, direct forward passing, through balls, off ball movement, triangles, more bodies up front. With other words, more flow going forward and more physicallity when we are defending.
