1. I don't want Montero in our starting XI. He is a one trick pony who doesn't score goals. I want goal scoring wingers who are able to do much more than Montero.

2. I have mixed feelings about Clucas. I am not a huge fan of him, but he is an ok midfielder who can run, tackle and score some goals. If we sign Amartey from Leicester then it's ok to sell Clucas, but not for £8 m. If we sell Clucas for £8 m then I was right when I posted this one:

Can't really agree about the Montero/Bony thing. Montero is really an old school orthodox winger. I agree he's not going to score a lot of goals, and as you say maybe a one trick pony, but that one trick gets him down to the dead ball line, pulls a couple of defenders out of the box, and has the remaining defenders facing their goal, in effect causing problems, Bony has benefited from this on many occasions. Pots has obviously studied some vids of him. He's the sort of player Bony and Llorente had he played with him would have got goals. We are now looking at Championship defenders, with no disrespects to them, are not in the same class as the Prem.

In the Premier League, for example, only 20 percent of all key passes via open crosses lead to goals. In contrast, 45 percent of all key passes via through balls create successful goal scoring attempts. More than double.

A couple of years ago Hamburger SV played 453 crosses during the season, leading to 65 shot attempts, converting only one. That can be considered waste of ball possession.

Attacking through crossing is ineffective. The input is high, the outcome extremely little. And remember, every inaccurate cross means the team loses the ball. If you want to have a higher conversion rate from crosses, then you have to commit more bodies up front, but then you lose the shape and expose yourself to counter-attacks. When front three play one-twos, dribble or run behind defences, the whole team keeps its shape.

Don't get me wrong, we can use Montero from time to time, but I don't want us to base our attacking strategy on crossing to Bony and McBurnie. If we do that we'll struggle to score many goals.

Can't altogether agree with that Crojack, your giving Prem averages .There are individual teams who's stats would probably be far better than that. There are teams that concede more from set pieces (corners etc.) than others.As for key through balls, we've witnessed 100% failure for 90 mins many times when opponents have parked the bus, and the only answer is wide play to get behind them. So IMO it's a case of horses for courses depending on who we play. Hopefully Pots will have plans A B & C in his locker when the season starts.

One of things that I noticed with Germany inthe wolrd Cup was their tendency to drill low crosses into the box as opppsed to high crosses. Anybody else notice that?

Fuck, I can't remember the last time I saw us play more than 3 balls through the opposition defence in 90 minutes. It would have to go back to the Laudrup days.

Can't say I did tbh but it's a ploy I favour providing, as in the case of a high cross, the first defender is taken out. Yankee, we both know that Ivor favoured playing through balls but I can remember him often speaking about the danger of a driven low cross. Did he do the same when you were with him?
