Another brief video with snatches of Cliff who was widely described as the best left winger in the world at the time. Real Madrid, the world's glamour team of that era, were constantly trying to sign him and Juventus offered £!00k for him, which was a mega fortune in those days. Bill Nicholson, legendary Spurs' manager rejected the offer saying that Cliff was "priceless". Including internationals, Cliff scored 200 career goals, which is some total for a winger whose main job in those days was to supply crosses for the strikers. My one regret is that I can't find a video of Cliff running with the ball - probably because in those days they didn't have cameras quick enough to keep up!

And for the record, Cliff was and is a modest gentleman who is liked and respected by all who meet him. A far cry from some of today's lot.

Yay!! I found a video of Cliffy running with the ball. There are brief glimpses at 2 mins 30 seconds and at 3 minutes. Bear in mind the mud patch they were playing on. I reckon on today's immaculate surfaces Cliffy would be even quicker - greased lightning!! And he had to contend with the hatchet-men that existed in those days when you almost had to have a broken leg to be awarded a foul. They were tough times to be a forward, aye.

Imagine having Greaves and Jones on the field at the same time.
Frightening! Greaves scored 366 league goals including 9 in 12 games for Milan plus 44 in 57 games for England. My all time favourite goal scorer!

But people forget Spurs' centre forward Bobby Smith who scored a career 218 goals plus 13 in 15 England appearances. Add Cliff's 200 goals from the WING and you have scoring power that would put the shits up any defence. :)
