Best squad over last 40 years

I haven't stopped to consider this carefully so my selection is an off the top of my head thing. So here goes.

Freestone
Rangel Ante Williams Jimmy H
Leon
Curt Robbie Leighton James
Michu
Latchford.

I would be equally happy with Fab as keeper but Roger was a fantastic clubman.
No question that I'd prefer Chico to Williams but he's not an option.
Selected Jimmy at LB because his double act with Leighton was incredible.
Bob Latch was a fantastic striker but I certainly would also be happy with Bony Mk 1 up there.

Gutted that I couldn't fit Bodde in but he never played at the top level for us. We have a decent defence with Ante the assassin there who could also play football and the six in front of them could all play and pass the ball. As for goals, the front 5 would score for fun.

Given time to think I might tinker a little but I think that that side would give any team a real good tussle.

It's what would be the best squad from the last 40 years, not best 11.
So you can have Chico and Ferrie
Ps anyone who chooses monk is going to be put on ignore lol

The article lists Chico under the "honourable mentions" but I suppose that's the journo's choice upon reflection. In that case, Chico instead of Williams.

For the last 40 years ... 3-4-1-2

Freestone
Chico Rajković Smith
Connor Roberts R.James Britton Hadziabdic
Michu
Curt L. James

I liked Curt as a #9.

Our best RB is Connor .... or he will be our best RB if he is not already.

I'm putting Smith as one of the back 3 ... a man for all seasons, pitches, and opposition.

Surprised that you omitted Bob Latchford, Yankee. That man was absolute quality at #9.

Yes he was, but I've seen Curt to some amazing things that would create opportunities for all the others. I also think he and Michu could swap roles during the game. Latchford would be THE #9 and would not offer the same flexibility starting the game.

Bodde ... everybody raves about him, but he never played above L1 - at least not for us.

He would have been a top premier League player I have no doubt about that , that's why his injury was so sad.
I loved Ferrie Bodde. The man was mean and talented. Often referred to as the lower league's Roy Keane, he had a ferocious shot and could put a 50 yard pass on a sixpence. Scored some fabulous goals from midfield and was a tigerish tackler. Had he played Premier League football, which I'm absolutely convinced he could have, he'd have become a superstar for a top club. I hate Fate when it deprives the world of talent like this.

How come Siggy isn’t getting mentioned more in this thread? To me, he’s the most talented player to play for the club. Also, I’m with @Ladygargar give me Michu all day!!
Siggy's a great player but he's got some pretty tough competition in midfield over the past 40 years. And I think probably everyone would have Michu in their team. He was definitely a favourite of mine.

Too far back in time to include Cliff Jones but had he been eligible would have been one of the first names on the team sheet. Younger posters will have read about him but seen very little, if anything, of this incredible player. In my opinion, running with the ball he was probably quicker than anyone in the game today - in fact, one of the quickest ever. He was the epitome of a goal scoring winger and, for his height of about 5ft 7", was lethal in the air. You can get a glimpse of this in the following video and, interestingly, another ex Swans' player, Terry Medwin also scores. Funny to note that he was good enough to play on Spurs' wing (a double winning side) but not good enough to play #7 for the Swans because we had Lenny Allchurch there. :) Terry had to play centre foward for us and he was pretty good there too.

I wince when I see the state of the pitches they had to play on in those days and the poor spectators had it pretty rough as well having to stand in the open in all weathers. You had to be tough and love your football to be a fan in those days. I was both. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
