Wigan v Swans

Wigan are one of the worst Championship sides in terms of playing style. Long time ago when Roberto Martinez was their manager they played some good passing football, but now they are a team who scores their goals from set-pieces.Together with Luton, they are topping the Championship table for most goals scored from set-pieces. They are rock bottom for goals scored from open play. What to say about the team whose top scorer is its centre-back Dunkley? Interestingly, Wigan are also topping the table for most set-pieces goals conceded.

Wigan are sitting in the 15th place in the Championship table with as many points from 14 games they have played so far. They have collected the vast majority of their points at home turf, winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 1 (to Leeds).

Having in mind Swansea's excellent away form this season I am going to go for a comfortable 2:0 win.

Really hope you're right, CJ, because any promotion aspiring team should be beating those below them in this type of situation. We're back in contention now but we need to cement it with a win up there. Think it will be very tight and going for 1-0 although, if Cooper plays our wingers as he did against Cardiff, it might be more comfortable. We will miss Rodon and I hope that young Wilmot will be up to the expected bombardment.

I've not seen them this season. It looks like we have the Cardiff match all over again. As long as the ref succumbs to Ayew/Borja's wiles, we should get a lot of free kicks in danger areas. Fill your boots, boys!

Agreed. Though we have to keep the ball on the ground more than we did against Cardiff, and improve our passing accuracy. No sloppy passes, please? Also, it will be crucial not to give away too many corner-kicks and free-kicks in our half.

And the starting XI is ..... drum roll ......

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Kyle Naughton, Mike van der Hoorn, Ben Wilmot, Jake Bidwell; George Byers, Matt Grimes (captain); Nathan Dyer, Bersant Celina, Wayne Routledge; Andre Ayew

Subs: Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Connor Roberts, Ben Cabango, Jay Fulton, Kristoffer Peterson, Sam Surridge, Borja Baston.

Lo' and Behold .... a miracle has happened .... Cooper keeps an unchanged line-up.

Fulton returns to the bench. Cabango is there as is Peterson.

So, Cooper listened, did has he was admonished to do, watched, learned and repeated. Rinse and Repeat .... we could yet snatch promotion out of the jaws of relegation.

Is this a one off or the start of a new streak. Please god, let us win this game and reinforce common sense in team selection.

I like it. I think we set up well away from home but if we play anything like we did last weekend we'll have a chance at 3 points. Wigan have made the DW a bit of a fortress so it won't be easy. With them being weak defending set pieces it's a big chance for our big guys to grab a goal.

Going to say a 1-2 Swans win, tough game, completely different to a lifeless Cardiff.

We missed a massive opportunity over the last several weeks. During this time, none of the top several clubs won more than two matches over their previous 5 matches. Exactly the same as us, which is why we are still in the top 4. If we had not departed from our August approach, we could now be clear of the mob by 3 or 4 points.

It’s now time to stop faffing around and hammer home what we all believe is our superior brand of football and the advantage that should give us. Trying to improve on gold is a fools’ errand. Cooper played the fool. If he now resigns himself to be happy with gold we can get the job done with aplomb instead of playing like a bomb.

Empty ground. Slow start by both teams but we look slightly better.
