Wales Euros 2021

Wales started well but after 20 minutes the Danish manager made a change of formation and totally neutralised Wales midfield. Since 20th minute there has been only one team on the pitch. Page has to do something.

Possession and attacking:
Wales green
Denmark blue

Welsh wimps. Pathetic doesn't begin to describe it. Totally shit, biased referee but Denmark fully deserved the win. Were Ramsey and Allen playing? We might have done better if they had been! If Cooper leaves it wouldn't surprise me to see the Swans rush to appoint Page. Just the sort of uninformed useless crap that would appeal to them. If that's the remotest possibility, I want Cooper to stay!!!!

Casper Hjulmand, the Danish national coach, has never been shy of talking about the tactics he uses. This is from his post-match interview.

Interviewer: "Casper, we had Jan Mølby in our studio in Denmark during the game and in the first half he noticed you moved Andreas Christensen from the centre-back to the defensive midfield position. Would you be kind to explain to Jan Mølby why did you do that?

Hjulmand: "Of course. We started with three at the back because we expected Wales would play 4-2-3-1 with Ramsey and Moore pressing our centre-backs. Wales surprised us by using three attackers who pressed our three centre-backs so we didn't have much space to play football. When I saw what was going on I reacted by telling our wing-backs to drop down and at the same time I told Andreas Christensen to move up into the defensive midfield. Wales pressing didn't work anymore against our back four, we were able to build up from the back, and by having an extra man in the midfield we suddenly had a lot of empty space where we could pass the ball. I was pleased to see how the lads immediately understood what I was trying to do."

Wales dominated the game the first 12 minutes

Casper Hjulmand didn't wait long to make a tweak in his formation,
and here is what happened between 12th and 48th minute

In the 60th minute Hjulmand makes a tactical tweak again and changes the formation to a more
defensive and counter-attacking 5-3-2. He also brings in some fresh legs.
Christensen playes again as a centre-back and Mæhle moves from the left to right full-back position.

Page was just not up to the job and tactically naive at this level. Denmark undoubtedly are a good side but they should never have beaten us this badly. Our guys didn't perform and, whilst they have to take personal responsibility for this, Page didn't have a clue how to respond to the Danish changes. He didn't have a Plan B because he is so limited. Shades of Cooper to me. His entire career has been at the lower levels and it showed.

But he has a point about the referee whom he said made a disgraceful decision just before their second goal in not awarding a free kick for a blatant foul on Moore. Even an amoeba could have recognised this as a foul and you have to question WHY the referee ignored it. I have my own view on this and the idiot concerned wouldn't like it. As with many other referees my opinion is that either he was incompetent or a cheat. Take your pick.

But it was that second goal that knocked the stuffing out of us. Because of Page's lack of vision, his lack of guidance, we were already starting to struggle after a very promising start, We tanked the game after that, gave up on it. Sure, we went through the motions but with no real conviction or belief. Too many players became anonymous and phoned it in. Welsh spirit? Hwyl? No sign of it!!

This team does have talent and I'm sure that a quality, experienced manager could bring it out. That would cost money but the FAW should cut back on their junkets and pay the going rate for the right man. Do that and we will see a marked improvement in our displays and results.

You are right about the foul on Moore, but the Danes scored after Neco Williams gifted them the ball in your box. An amateurish clearance. By the way, Ben Cabango and Ethan Ampadu didn't play. Why?

Your players needed an input from the manager to play well and express themselves. Page did nothing to counter Hjulmand's changes. Not even at half time.

Bad by Williams but if the foul had been awarded, as it should have been, the ball would have been in their box and not ours and the mistake wouldn't have been made. People concentrate on Williams' error instead of the referee's disgusting bias. Ampadu was banned for his red card and Page obviously doesn't rate Cabango, which in my book means that Cabango will have done well had he played.

Page had no input to give because he is a very limited and poor manager at this level. But, apart from him, one other thing particularly grates. England played games at Wembley; Scotland at Hampden Park; Denmark in Copenhagen; Spain in Seville; Italy in Rome etc etc etc. Wales' application to use the Millenium stadium was rejected out of hand. WHY??!! So, how is it a level playing field that, when it came for us to play Denmark, they had travelled less than 400 miles, whilst our lads had travelled about 5,400 miles. Guess which team was likely to be the most disrupted, the most fatigued and the least supported?

We were cynically set up by a shameless EUFA and their referee finished the job. Perhaps our brown envelopes weren't thick enough for them.

That penalty seemed soft to me. Schmeichel made a good save. I hope the final doesn't have any controversy. The decisions haven't been that bad compared to the Championships anyway. It doesn't seem like VAR makes much difference.

Shit penalty decision. There didn't seem to be any significant contact. Schmeichel pulled off a great save unlucky that it spilled towards Kane.

What is it with penalties these days. The spot is 12 yards out. Why are players trying to be cute/clever? Have keepers gotten that much better at dealing with penalties. What's wrong with just drilling the fucking ball.
