So far Swansea have spent most on new players in this transfer window

So far only four Championship clubs have spent money on new players where transfer fees have been payed. Though, many players have been signed on "free" transfers, and we know that free transfers are not free - clubs pay sign-on fee to players they sign on a so called free transfer.

Swansea €2m
Stoke €1.75m
Ipswich €1.5m
Middlesbrough €870.000

Interesting.

In season 2019/20 the Championship clubs spent on transfers €239m, and so far this season only €5.7m. That's a huge difference. Ok, there is still a lot of time left in this transfer window, but the consequences of the corona pandemic are obvious.
The Championship clubs simply don't have money.
The clubs relegated from the Premier League will be huge favourites.

We've been linked with Barry Bannan of Sheffield Wednesday a player I've said in the past could fit in with our style of play. He's a busy creative midfielder and could be the playmaker we've been looking for. I appreciate he's not top drawer but then neither is anyone else in our team and we couldn't/wouldn't afford to bring in much better. Thoughts, guys?

Don't get me wrong but I don't know what our style of play is.

Barry is a good player, though his assists and goals tally has not been as good as in 2018/19 when he scored 5 goals and had 11 assists. But Wednesday as a team were poor last season so that could be an explanation.
Yeah, I think he would be a good signing.

Barry Bannan is under contract for the next two years and is 31 years old.
George Byers has a year left on his contract and is 25 years old and he’s going to the Owls for free as they are blocked from spending money in the transfer market.
Why are we letting Byers go for nothing when we could be doing a swop deal for Bannan plus a small fee.
Our midfield is weak and with Grimes the next on the departure list to raise money it will be a lot weaker. We’ve just signed an injury prone player in Liam Walsh to replace him but he’s already injured before the season starts.

What is it about Byers that the Club doesn’t like ?

He came to us after being released by Watford when he was 20.

The question should be what is it about Dhanda that the club likes?

Byers is a slightly better player than Dhanda, but like Dhanda he never has had that creativity, drive and passion a number 10 should possess.

When you watch Dhanda and Byers and then Connor Galagher you get the picture.

As an attaccking midfielder you have to command the attacking midfield area just like a good goalie commands his box.

As Martin has stated multiple times in the last couple of days: the squad is light in numbers.

Unless there's money involved I don't see Byers going anywhere ... especially in exchange for Bannan a 31 year old with only downside in front of him. I don't see that has being good business never mind good football.

I see what you're saying but, imho, Bannan is a far superior player to Byers and would be an instant fit with the type of football that Martin wants us to play. Granted Byers is younger but he should be showing more than he has. Dhanda the same. They both occupy positions but they have no impact, they don't drive a game, have little influence on the play and don't make that difference that wins matches. On the other hand, I've seen Bannan dictating play and doing all of the above in a very poor team. What could he do under Russell?

Agree on Bannan. Wednesday desperately need money and Bannan is on the Championship wages there. No relegation clause in his contract.

Byers transfer confirmed, includes a sell on clause , lightens our wage bill slightly but further weakens our midfield options .

Why do we give a damn about Wednesday. Didn't we give them enough comp for Carvalhal.

Byers is under contract, unless he is otherwise considered total crap, he needs to stay until close to the transfer deadline so that Martin can make his own mind up.

I guess it's too late now.
