Here is the spider chart for the Luton game

Luton created better chances and had more shots on target,
so they deserved to win

It's interesting to see that Blackburn are rock bottom, so
it's not a surprise they've lost their last two matches
(Coventry have 3 games in hand)

We should have scored 14 goals but we scored only 4

We have created enough chances to score 14 goals but scored only 4.
Our attackers have let us down either by totally missing clear-cut chances
or by firing weak shots towards the opposition goal.
Opposition goalkeepers have also made some fantastic saves against us.

We shoot enough but (too) many shots are
outside box

5.jpg

We have very good shots on target stats
Vastly improved on last season

6.jpg

Our shot accuracy is not bad either

Blackburn strikers massively overperform so far

9.jpg

Preston have probably the best defence in all European leagues
0 goals conceded in 5 games so far

10.jpg

We don't concede so many shots,
but we give away too many good chances

11.jpg

We are among the worst in the league

12.jpg

Build-up Disruption is a metric that tells us which teams
have the most effective high pressing
We are one of the most ineffective teames when it comes to high
pressing efectiveness

Teams with the highest Field Tilt % have most passes
in opposition third

14.jpg

Watford players are the best dribblers, Wigan and Stoke's the worst

15.jpg

Bristol are the best crossers in the league, Blackburn the worst
Swansea are in the middle

Here is how we could describe our season so far based on data

  • We create enough high quality chances to win our games, but our attackers simply waste too many of them. On the other hand, we give away too many high quality chances and the opposition attackers score from almost all of them.
  • Our defenders don't block shots and crosses as much as they should
  • We don't have a settled defence and that's because Cabango and Allen have come back late from injuries
  • The only game we have won is the game when we played 4 at the back
  • We should have comfortably won Rotherham and Millwall games
  • So, it's not all so bad. Our attackers will start to score if we continue to create so many chances, and the opposition attackers won't be scoring at this rate against us. Our main problem is still our defence that leaks goals. We simply must not gift points to teams we totally outplay.
  • Our high pressing effectivity (BDP) sucks despite having excellent numbers for PPD (allowed passes per defensive action)

Great stats and info again, CJ. Thanks for that. It's very interesting to have this forensic breakdown of our play: strengths and weaknesses. 👍
