I've already covered them in a previous post and mentioned how much I enjoyed the day back in 1981. But here is Curt's take on it and it evoked such memories for me. Had to be one of the best footballing days of my life. And, you know, I might even treasure that day more than when we beat Reading at Wembley. The reason? Easy! It was the very FIRST time in our history that we had reached the top level after years of stagnating in the lower divisions.
What made it sweeter, as Curt alluded to, was the fact that we had so many local guys in the team who cared about the club and it was such a different feeling to the one I get watching today's overpaid mercenaries perform. I knew many of those players and watching Robbie pouring bubbly from a bottle on the coach brought back some great memories of the times we shared a drink together. Liked a glass or ten did Robbie God bless him.
Anyway, here's Curt and thanks for the great memories, lads.
