Nathan Jones

Nathan Jones was supposedly in the Swans director's box for the Cardiff game. He's old mates with Paul Watson and a Cardiff lad so perhaps it was just social, but then again maybe not..?

Watson has to have a contingency at this point. Is Jones it?

I would suspect that at this point execs are seeking outside opinion to bolster or refute their own before triggers are pulled.

Nathan Jones is an avowed Cardiff fan; but there again, so was Steve Cooper. Football is a cut-throat and mercenary business where loyalty comes a distant also ran to monetary interests. On that basis I'd have no objection to Nathan Jones replacing Duff(er) because I think he's a good manager who's proven at this level. But I'd still prefer Cameron Toshack. He knows the club; knows most of the players; knows how to play the football that suits us because he knows what makes us tick. Whatever, Duff has to go. His methods are totally alien to us and the results prove it.

We all believe that we can get a better tune out of this squad. If it's not possible then we're down anyway; but if we're right then a different maestro has to lead the orchestra.

This is a good squad. With the right manager this is a top-half squad without too much fuss. I'd take Jones, I'd take Toshack. I'm almost hoping for another capitulation vs QPR tomorrow just to expedite the process. Duff doesn't have the dressing room.

Jones? No, thanks.

We need a manager who plays possession and passing football with more pace, directness and high (gegen-) pressing. Exactly what Duff promised but never delivered.

His name is definitely in the running. Our owners haven't sacked a manager midseason since Paul Clement December 17. Duff may end that run though, and I saw the stat he is the only stable manager to not get a win in his first 6 matches since 1920. That is incredible.

There was an interesting article on Carvalhal the manager who replaced Clement with a brief spell of Britton filing in. Changed the way he looked at football after Swansea. Went from a system focused style to focusing on spaces.

Unless I missed it, there has been no prematch interview with Duffer for QPR. Tough to face the music when it all goes to shit. He can go now, why waste a game.

Andy Robinson is the latest to complain about our lack of identity under Michael Duff. He had this to say in WOL:

"It's only six games in, but the lack of identity or seeing where this side is going, the fans will not stand for it," he said.

"There was no urgency, no quality.

"I'm not saying players have downed tools, but they looked confused and that's the biggest concern. It looks like there was no cohesion in what they were doing."

Ex Cardiff striker, Jay Bothroyd was equally scathing in his role as co-pundit with Ashley Williams. He now says:

"I'm not even looking past QPR and Sheffield Wednesday," he said. "Those games are must-win games. That's a minimum four points. Otherwise he [Duff] might not see the rest of those games.

"I think there's a way to lose games, especially in the South Wales derby. Tonight wasn't one of them.

"Like we said, there was no effort. If they're playing QPR 20th position, Sheffield Wednesday 23rd, they need to win those two games. Or at least four points.

"Otherwise I don't think I can see him being there after that. There was no philosophy. I remember playing against Swansea and they always had a style and an identity. A philosophy.

"I didn't know what they were doing today. They didn't create anything until the last 10 minutes."

Bothroyd was on punditry duties alongside Ashley Williams for Sky Sports, and the former Swans captain was clearly frustrated by his side's failure to land a glove on their bitter rivals.

"Russell Martin was very, very possession-based and you had to be very patient," he added.

"I think he's trying to adjust that a little bit and get it forward quicker, up to the two strikers, which they started with. "But it wasn't with any quality. Once it did get up there, the midfield wasn't quick enough to support them. So they didn't create anything all game."

So there we have it - universal condemnation from professional footballers, friends and foe alike, in addition to we fans who've been screaming similar criticism for quite some time. NO IDENTITY: NO STYLE: NO PHILOSOPHY: NO ENERGY: CONFUSED!! I'd hazard a guess from reading that lot that what Duff is doing isn't working, so why the Hell is HE still working? He claims that his past record vinicates his methods but that was at a lower level. Championship teams are at a far higher standard than anything he's experienced in his managerial career and it's evident that what he's doing isn't working for us. It also seems that the players know it and have given up on him looking at the way they're performing.

I reckon it should be 6 from 6 in the next two games with decent performances else Duff should be collecting his P45 soon after.

It would be an abject failure to collect anything but two wins from the next two matches. At this point, the only variable that can be changed is the coaching staff. Anything less than two wins and Duffer has to go. And, frankly, even if he won the next two matches, it's not any indicator that he's got shit together going forward. I would expect these players to coach themselves and get two wins. There's enough seniority in the squad - Allen, Naughton, Grimes, Fulton and Pato - to organize and pick an XI and get the job done.

We've had nothing but colossally bad series of losses using variations on a theme of 3+2. Whatever the cause, last season's squad couldn't cut it, and so far this season's squad is similarly afflicted. We have to drop this addiction and move on to something else.

Our most successful seasons going back to the arrival of Martinez was something along the lines of 4-2-3-1 and variations. We now have Lowe and Ginnelly that can pose threats from out wide ... we need to use them.

Be ready to be scared shitless! Neil Warnock has been linked with our job. Fortunately so far it's only newspaper conjecture and he's also been mentioned as a possible candidate for Sheffield Wednesday. We've dropped a long way from the likes of Martinez, Rodgers, Laudrup and Potter for sure.

I remember in the dying days of the Prem era Tony Pulis was also linked. Standard play from the football media - connect relegation zone teams with firefighter managers like Pulis, Warnock and Allardyce. With a bit of luck, if they replace Duff they'll realise the massive stylistic overhaul probably wasn't a good idea and appoint someone a bit more sympathetic to the Swansea way.

The last couple of appointments have been such knee-jerk reactions. Steve Cooper's football was too pragmatic for the fanbase so the board appoint the manager with the best possession stat they could afford - Russell Martin - only to discover he's too extreme, then they go completely the other end of the scale and appoint a borderline hoofball merchant instead. I'm sure somewhere between these poles there's a decent, affordable manager with a contemporary approach that likes to pass a bit, move a bit, press a bit and score a lot. Cam Toshack? John Herdman?

Or Carvalhal, Or Guidolin, Or Graham Potter .... lot's of coaches that could come in and do a half decent job .... and it only has to be half decent as 50% is always better than 0%

Kjetil Knutsen.

In his third attempt, he succeeded and helped FK Bodo/Glimt win their first title. His team dominated the league that season, losing only one match, scoring 103 goals and finishing 19 points ahead of their nearest rival. The league title was the first for FK Bodo/Glimt in their history.

This would get them in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. Although they failed to qualify for it, they managed to enter UEFA Conference League, the third-tier European cup competition.

FK Bodo/Glimt finished second in their group behind Roma, whom they defeated 6-1 in perhaps the finest moment for the club and Kjetil Knutsen. They also defended their domestic title, prompting several clubs to look at the Norwegian.
In the 2021 season, the club lost several key players, and despite injuries, keep challenging the elite, recently being close to their maiden UCL place.
This has all been down to Knutsen’s brilliance.

Me too. But is he available? Also, do we have the players who could cope with his intense style? Seems that they can't handle what Duff demands of them if you can believe him.
