Incoming striker

Just read an article in news now that claims we have lodged a successful bid for Jerry Yates, a 15 goal Blackpool striker .
I don't know much about him other than he has scored regularly for a poor Blackpool team .

So now we have: Cullen, Piroe, Whittaker, Ginelly, Joseph, Yates, Josh Thomas, Liam Smith. All are either #9 or capable of leading the line. Somebody has to go unless they can also double as a LB.

Thomas and Smith are with our U-21. You have to figure that Ginelly and Yates are going to be the new "pets". Is Whittaker considered more of a midfield player? The Club list Paterson under forwards on the squad page ... not so much anymore I have to think

Piroe will be sold, Whittaker is more an ATM than a striker and will probably leave, Ginnelly is injured, Joseph, Thomas & Smith will be sent out on loan, which means Cullen and Yates are the only two dedicated strikers we have left.

I thought we were also interested in a Dutch second tier striker Dylan Vente from Rodja JC who's scored 46 goals in the past two seasons. Trouble is it seems Coventry are also keen and we won't win a bidding war against anyone despite what our suits claim.

It seems that as part of the transfer deal Kyle Joseph is going the other way to Blackpool . I don't know if that's a permanent move or a loan deal .

There's a new rumour for a LB / CB Lee Buchanan who spent some time with Derby and Werder Bremen. These all look like class signings so far.

Permanent for an undisclosed fee. Pity he didn't get more chances to show what he could do and I wish him the best of luck.

We already have an excellent goals / per minutes played scorer in Cullen. What's important for us is that we rapidly develop some synergy between Cullen and A N Other, whoever that is Yates, Ginnelly or both. Cullen and Piroe didn't really seem to work cohesively off each other. Not sure if that was due to Martin's tactical setup and instruction or it just didn't click.

Everybody seems to think that Piroe already has his toothbrush packed ... I'm holding to the opinion that we are stuck with him until his contract runs out as the clubs with the money have already run their due diligence and identified a deal breaker in the player. How this factors into team selection is going to be one massive but fascinating headache for Duff. Piroe is no longer the pet. The only scenario I see playing out is that Piroe goes bye-bye on a loan ... probably around mid-season, but could be this window if Duff makes an early determination that he's a square peg etc or Duff identifies the negative that the money clubs have already discovered. Ginnelly and Yates have been identified as hungry round pegs fitting Duff's spec for round holes. It's more of a style fit than goal output driving the selection.

A lot of penalties on here, he was 12 of 13 for Blackpool on those in the past 3 years. 42 goals and 13 assists in the past 3 years with Blackpool as well. 0.42 goals per 90 during his time with Blackpool I believe. That is an incredible stat

I know highlights only show the best moments but, nevertheless, they were impressive. He's got pace, can beat a man with trickery and is genuinely two-footed. If he replicates that form with us, he could be a cracking signing. Don't like his low struck penalties but he's been successful with most of them and at least he does give the ball a belt. I don't know how well he'll link up with Cullen if they play together but, if they do, we'll have a hell of a goal poaching threat. Just need to keep getting the ball into the box for them to indulge their feeding frenzy.

Yates has played on the Left as a forward or winger if we do keep Piroe that would be amazing. This is one time I can see making a profit on Piroe and keeping faith in Duff to work an attacking plan without him.
