I think we have an interesting squad of players ... if we can keep the likes of Amat and Montero and bring on some of our U23 then I think we could give most of the league a very hard time. Montero skinning a FB and crossing to McB has got goal written all over it.
I am afraid that's exactly the reason why we haven't been successful in the past three years. Crossing to a big lump up front won't win us promotion.

McB is hardly a big lump.
And Gomis, but that was the start of the one dimensional style of play under Monk. Luckily for us, when Montero was found out we had another great provider of perfect crosses in Siggy. Last season when we had neither of them in the squad our strikers Bony, Abraham and McBurnie scored less than ten goals.
I have to agree with Yankee,I think Montero would get us goals,or penalties, Champ.defenders would find him a handful.
No doubt he will get us goals, but how many goals will he score?

Montero's challenge (other than his hamstring) was that once he was recognized as a threat (the killing of Chelsea and Arsenal did that) he was often double and even tripled teamed. This coupled with our slowness in getting him the ball when he was open and could actually attack just one defender and then the failure to recognize the situation, get the ball from him and switch it across field to take advantage of the opposition's overload, meant that his effectiveness was negated ... negated by our own lack intelligence.

I would also had that Taylor's insistence on overlapping Montero into the space Montero needed to take on and go past a defender really tended to fuck things up.
