Burnley Away

I don't think Piroe is going to win an appeal on that. Intentional or not it looked pretty bad. Reading on Tuesday then an early Sunday match to get back on track.

Piroe is out for Cardiff. Miserable day. No shape, no effort, no clue. Weakness in key roles and it was exposed badly WBs were awful.

manning needs to get fit quick. Too many players failed to offer anything industrious.

Burnley fair play put us under pressure on every square inch of the park and conceded nothing. We folded in the face of it and showed no imagination

This unadulterated hammering should bring Martin and his bunch of over-hyped divas back to reality. They are bang average players in a bang average team and need to be at their best to compete with the quality teams in this league. Piroe has downed tools of late, perhaps miffed because he didn't get a move to the Premier League. Got news for you, Joel. The reason is that you ain't good enough, pal. In recent games you haven't even been good enough for us let alone the division above. Let's hope that Liam Cullen gets three starts to try and cement his place.

But will Martin learn from this? Like hell he will. He'll point to our run of recent wins and claim this was just a bad day at the office. Bollocks!! We still can't defend properly; still play suicidal football from the back; still are not good enough to play how Martin wants and still lack fitness and strength as a team. Oh, and Martin himself still lacks a Plan B and still is obstinate enough to keep playing his pets whilst playing others out of position.

He should shape up or get out and I say this despite us being in touch with the top six. It's built on quicksand.

We need to see Piroe’s incident from the behind goal camera if there is one otherwise there’s nothing to refute the ref’s report. Not clear exactly what part of the body Piroe’s left foot made contact with.

Radio comms agree it was a red card from the angle they had but there might be other views that'll shed more light.

Grimes was his usual minimal self. As the person that most of our possession roles through from the back, he strikes me as being remarkably unbusy in his movement. I compare to Leon and Joe, which is the standard he should be aspiring to, and he falls far short.

We shouldn't be surprised. Up to this game, we've had one of the worst defences in the championship, and now I'm sure it's going to be the worst.

From a data perspective, we saw a reversion to the mean defensively. And we’re not at the mean yet so there is more pain ahead. On the attacking front, we have to get Piroe out his funk and finishing sharper and working harder especially if he is in a midfield role otherwise we are going to lag our xGoals number.

yesterday exposed several vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Character being a big one, wing backs being another. The 3+2 setup was so dysfunctional that Martin shifted away from it in the first half. Stephens should be given a start - he couldn’t possibly be any worse.

Just as it looked we had turned the corner and began looking like premiership material we revert to a back four that cant defend and a front line that that seems like they've fogotten what scoring is.
We have just exposed our weekness's to the scum at the worse possible moment..
It seems we are what we are under Martin ,an ,occasional flash in the pan.
The squad is capable of playing good football, but we need someone to insitil that confidence into them.
I was hoping a bit of a winning run would have made us look buyable. but that 0 4 drubbing will have put the lid on that.

In fairness to Martin, he can’t control whether players show up on the day or not. Too many yesterday were not contributing graft, and what talent they have stayed on the bus. A team doesn’t string a series of wins together against some tough teams especially away from home without having the basis of a good team. Martin has to be more ruthless and less nice as clearly some players don’t understand the duty owed by being selected to start.

The trouble with yesterday is that a number of the better performers in that series of wins didn’t start - Manning, Cooper and Cundle for example. Sorinola started the left side where he is distinctly sub par, and Lati played and was shown up badly. Couple this with Piroe and Ntcham instead of Cooper and Cundle and we couldn’t press for shit and had only two functioning midfield players in Fulton and Grimes (sub par). A recipe for a shit show. We conceded 2 goals with 3+2, and the other with a back four. We basically lost the game in midfield and in the transition. Burnley were a cohesive unit all over the field and made us look a man short even when we were not.

Martin has to take on board the lessons from this match. Who he can trust and who he can’t. Let’s see who he starts in midweek.

He still has a very high opinion of himself/
We left our previous club now someone else is reaping the benifits. Says he wants to stay at Swansea to reap the benifits of all his hard work here, and has rejected all interest WBA had on him.
