BRIZZLE

Much needed win with a tough run of fixtures in front of us. A lot of work to do though, as far from improving Martin's game, plan we have definitely gone backwards. Either new blood or new ideas needed for next season.

I think we may have found a creative solution going forward. Oba as #9. Piroe as #8. Oli in place of Pato at #10.

Downes belongs in midfield next to grimes. Wolf definitely on the left side. Burns impressed, young and inexperienced but fully capable.

fisher … place holder at best, marginally better than Hamer. Benda is the better of the three.

We should be playing 4-3-3 defending morphing to 3–4-3 going forward with Downes / Grimes playing in from of two CBs. This gives us the best of all worlds

Manning is a conundrum. He has moments where he does something special and the rest of time is either woefully out of position, too slow to get back, or finds himself with the ball with time and space to do something in an advanced position and quality fails him.

for me, net he’s not up to it. Ok as a reserve but need somebody more capable in whatever role Martin has him playing.

It was great to be back at The Liberty after my hols. All credit to the Robins fans for making it a proper match day experience. It was like the old days - at least 1000 arrived by train and walked to the stadium under police escort.

I never felt we were in control of the match, well maybe after the third goal.
Manning is a conundrum
He probably is bipolar now, with all the varying duties he has to perform. He was the only one likely to go offmessage and hoof a clearance upfield. The tangle we got in sometimes was heartstopping, fortunately Bristol couldn’t shoot straight.

Their supporters took the opportunity to have a good go at Fisher in the second half and you could see it affected him. If anything it made his decisions even more heart stopping. At least it took the pressure off Ben, who was Bristols main target in the first half.

The Manc lad has obviously had the right education. He reminds me of Steve Caulker in skill and attitude. Let’s hope hello becomes as much of a JB.

All in all, it was good to be back.

Indeed, Burns reminded of Caulker. More so than Guehi did. I would say Burns should be starting alongside Cabango going forward.

I fail to see how Taylor sees Fisher above the keepers he has in the squad having spent time managing him. His ball distribution is frightening and its going to cost us sooner or later. Maybe he was on a little commission for relieving the Dons of him.

I was speaking to @Ladygargar who felt that it was a decent enough performance without setting the world on fire. Said that she was impressed with Obafemi who looked fitter and sharper than in previous games. Some stats:

POSSESSION: 71-29 SHOTS: 16-10 OT: 6-3 CORNERS: 6-5 FOULS: 5-17 GOALS: 3-1

I see that their foul count was over three times what ours was, which I suppose is indicative of a Nigel Pearson team. It might also be a reflection of the pressure we were putting them under.

We now have a good rest before meeting the Blades away and B'muff at home. Get some rest by all means but also put in some intensive training because both games will be a tough test.

My original impression of Oba's goal was that Christie tried to shoot and scuffed it. But the more I see the replay, the more I think that he was looking to play the ball into that space for Oba to attack.
