It seems that Giggs got rid of Coleman's 3-5-2/5-3-2 and used 4-2-3-1 with attacking full-backs.
What was your impression @ivoralljack ? More attacking setup?
I remember Coleman used to play Ben Davies as one of the back three and Niel Taylor as wing-back
.
Yes, CJ, definitely more attacking set-up with Ampadu the glue at DM. Not only did he play that role almost to perfection, he was the catalyst for a number of attacks and his winning of the ball before putting Ramsey in for his goal with a beautifully weighted pass was top class. Then he was to be found in his own penalty area showing the strength, composure and experience of someone twice his age to clear the ball. As I said, this young man has the footballing world at his feet and Chelsea had better start giving him games because, if they don't, other top clubs will be scrambling for his signature.
Bale, Ramsey (his awful mistake apart), and Allen all showed the class we know they have but David Brooks also had an exciting game and looks to be a great prospect. Lawrence took his goal brilliantly and Roberts, the Leeds striker, showed glimpses of his ability as well. Connor Roberts looked completely at home at this level and scored an excellent goal. In fact, no one had a bad game and the team played with a freedom and attacking intent that was a pleasure to watch. And don't forget that we have the likes of Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson, both tremendous talented prospects, challenging to come into this team.
As for Chris Coleman, I've never been much impressed with him and I'm not being wise after the event. I've often stated my reservations about him in the past and felt that his reputation was built primarily on Gareth Bale's sensational ability to produce a worldie when we were getting nowhere fast. Ramsey and Allen did their bit in support but as for the rest, well they were just there to make up the numbers: and Coleman never looked like getting his team close to the fluency and attacking intent that we saw last night. Just not in his skill set or mentality and one of the reasons why my voice was one of the loudest in saying that he should never manage the Swans despite being a local lad. Mind you, I don't deny that he seems to be a nice guy and was well liked by his team.
But lets not get too carried away by this result. This was a depleted and poor ROI team and we were playing at home. Denmark will prove a far sterner test but if we can replicate our form of last night and get a result then I will finally believe that we have a national team that could develop into a world class outfit within a few years. Hope I'm still around to enjoy the ride.
