Surely we can find a keeper with a UK skill set that is tidy with his feet.
Agreed. We need a complete goalkeeper. Aerial presence and commanding the box is crucial in the Championship,
unless we significantly impove our passession, passing accuracy, pressing and tackling/fouling in opposition half. If we do that then we won't need to worry so much about corners and set-pieces.
I've had a look at the stats for Manchester City and Swansea this season.
Manchester City, because of their dominance in possession,
concedes only 2.3 corners per game, Swansea 5.2.
That's a huge difference.
Manchester City also play much more in opposition half. We, on the other hand, invite pressure and play more in our own half. We don't press and foul opposition in their own half, Manchester City do. This has nothing to do with the squad quality,
this is simply a part of footballing style. Potter has to add this element to our style of play if we want to avoid set-pieces and conceding goals from corners and free-kicks.
The best defence against set-pieces is not giving them away.
